The collection for the Campaign for Human Development is generally taken up at Masses on the Sunday before Thanksgiving. However, dioceses are allowed to schedule the collection for a different Sunday. So, make sure you know the exact date when the CHD will be taken up at your parish. Then, do as I am going to do: when the basket is passed for that collection, drop a note that reads, “I will not donate a dime to the CHD. I am sick of my money going to advance political causes with which I disagree, some of which are in blatant opposition to Catholic teaching.” In addition, I don't even give to the main collection on that Sunday, out of fear that some of the money from the main collection will be funneled to the CHD.
