Rest in peace Mr. Jobs. You will be missed. He was a GIANT in the area of computers.

Mr. Jobs will be credited with re-inventing Apple after its low point over a decade ago when he invented the iMac. Later on with the Mac Mini, iPod, iTunes, and iPhone.

Not only a giant in computers, a giant in business as well. For a long time, the computer industry gave us what it thought we needed, and that was boring computers and interfaces, and they didn't feel the need to push ahead as much as they should have. Apple gave us what we wanted and what those of us who grew up on old pulp sci-fi novels thought we should have already had years ago. Along the way, they dragged the computer industry (and the phone industry) into rethinking a lot of things.

The thing that impressed me most about Jobs was his willingness to kill off projects that he didn't like. Many CEOs don't care about the crap their companies shovel out into the marketplace as long as it makes a profit. There were plenty of things Apple worked on over the years that could have made a profit that they either didn't release, or went back to the drawing boards until they (Jobs) were happy.

I was also impressed at how personally involved he was and how he ran Apple, and I'm not speaking just as somebody who made money off of Apple stock. There is a story, and there are different versions, about how Jobs would tell new Apple VPs that janitors were allowed to make excuses or have reasons why they couldn't do their job as they didn't have much control over their situation. If you were a VP on the other hand, you were completely responsible for what happened under you, because you had control over your situation and the means to fix problems. Ruthless? Sure, but how many of us have seen companies where the VPs kicked back and didn't sweat the details and blamed others for their problems.

Mr. Jobs is in a much, much better place now. Losing a giant in both computers and business today. I got the present Apple Mac Mini computer as a Christmas gift three days before Christmas, 2009. He will be missed.

Steve, thanks for your vision, your challenge to the status quo, and thanks for a product line that drew our family together. I bought the first one (can’t even remember the model, but it had 10mbs of storage,and no install disks!), son borrowed the Apple II’s from journalism class....he’s now running his own graphics business on about 3 Macs, all the grands are Mac literate, and even Papa has his own MacBook Pro.

Mostly, just thanks the the great, grand idea!! Most people say “rest in peace”, I say “start whispering in people’s ears. Keep inspiring us!”

This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life.”

That speech is precisely what I thought of as part of Jobs' legacy. So I provided the link to the YouTube video.

Mr. Jobs lived the American dream in full. How sad and ironic, today, with protesters in NYC who were protesting about Wall Street and greed,they must have filmed all those videos about their protests on their iPhones, forgetting who made that all possible.

The story of Jobs and Apple may have been forgotten by many people. Everyone knows that Jobs and "The Woz" founded Apple, and they created something really special. But many people aren't familiar with the years where Apple nearly failed,after the board of Apple had brought in John Scully and they forced Jobs out. Ever the visionary and competitor, Jobs set up shop across the street from Apple HQ and opened NeXT computers. At the time, the problem with both Apple and NeXT was simply that the hardware required to do what Jobs wanted didn't exist. NeXT was a really cool computer, and he had a really wild business model for that company. But, as I mentioned, the hardware simply didn't exist to do what he wanted: To change the world of computers, and make computers a transparent tool, something you didn't need to realize you were using in order to accomplish a task.

Thankfully the hardware did eventually catch up with Jobs' imagination, and when he returned to Apple, it was a triumphant return, and he did something really amazing.

He will be sorely missed, and not just by Mac evangelists.
