Suit: Detained woman forced to listen to Rush Limbaugh
Houston Chronicle ^ | 10/05/2011 | By MIKE TOLSON, HOUSTON CHRONICLE

Talk about your Monday from hell. Not only did Bridgett Nickerson Boyd's car break down on her way to work, but when she pulled over to the side of the freeway, a sheriff's deputy named Mark Goad pulled behind her, wrote her a ticket for driving on the shoulder, decided to arrest her, followed her to the hospital when her suddenly racing heart prompted a call to paramedics, then took her into custody again after she was treated by doctors and finally drove her to jail.

To make matters worse, Boyd claims in a lawsuit that the handcuffs were put on her wrists painfully tight and that she was forced to listen to conservative broadcaster Rush Limbaugh "make derogatory comments about black people" all the way to the jail. Boyd is African-American.

There was the problem right there - smoking's bad for you.

LOL. It was "second-hand" smoke.

But, like the billboard I saw last night: not everyone can avoid second-hand smoke, especially if it's coming from upwind. :-)

Her racist attack on Rush Limbaugh is easily disproved.

Check the tape of his program playing at same date and time as this alien creature was being driven to the slammer. Take note of any and all anti-black diatribes during this time period.

Then he should sue her.

Is she related to Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Mars) perchance?

after her engine started smoking There was the problem right there - smoking's bad for you.

Oh worse...

She didn't have the SEIU install Photovoltaic Panels on her roof with a Gov't based kickback scheme intertwined in the financing and not driving a Volt to be powered by those Solar Cells....

Then her engine wouldn't have smoked and she wouldn't have been arrested ( sarc / off )...

something tells me El Rushbo is gonna get ALL kinds of mileage out of this one...

Yes. This is easily proven or disproven.

Her arrest is a matter of public record. Rush's staff can get the times that she was in the cruiser from the dispatch and cruiser video. The cruiser video may also have the Rush program on in the background. Pull transcripts from the times in question. She'll be forced to eat crow and this will also instantly disappear from the MSM radar.

Aside from the more humorous aspect of the story, that occurred to me as well.

What kind of cop arrests someone for their car breaking down on the highway? If that’s really the case, this officer was way out of line, and should face disciplinary action.

The magistrate who visited her while she was incarcerated indeed agree, and subsequently dismissed all charges.

Yes, “being forced to listen to Rush” is an amusing, if dubious complaint, but for me the real issue is the arresting officers behavior. As you point out, others have been fired for less than this. His behavior strikes me as utterly inappropriate (though I would need to his telling of the events to render a proper judgment). What kind of officer, in the USA no less, feels the need to arrest someone who had committed, at best, a petty infraction (driving on the shoulder)?

Yeah, I know, you or anyone else doesn’t need to respond to my rhetorical question. I read earlier today on FR that the cops in D.C. are jailing (that’s right: JAILING) people who have expired license tabs.

Things are getting out of hand.

Reminds me of the joke where the guy is driving down the road when he sees a hitchhiker and picks him up. The hitchhiker gets into a car, pulls a gun on the guy and tells him to pull over. He pulls over, and the hitchhiker takes his wallet, forces him to take off all his clothes and then ties his wrists to his ankles before driving off.

The poor guy is hunched over on the road, wondering what he's going to do, when suddenly a police car pulls up and a big cop gets out.

"Gee, Officer, am I ever glad to see you!" the guy says, relieved. "You wouldn't believe what happened. I picked up a hitchhiker, and the guy pulls a gun on me, makes me take my clothes off, takes my wallet and my car, and leaves me here all tied up like this!"

At which the cop pulls down his zipper and declares, "Boy, this just ain't your day!"

Ah. The officer just upped and “decided” to arrest her, eh? For no good reason.

I wondered about that. Was belligerence maybe a factor?

I think I’d be more worried about “secondhand burritos” coming from upwind.

LOL! Had to listen to Rush...classic. Rush is gonna love this one!

But, really the deputy was a jerk. She broke down, and ends up being arrested for driving on the shoulder? What was his problem? What was she suppose to do, stay in the freeway lane and block traffic?! The charges were dismissed, as they should have been—She is gonna win this suit.

“but this sheriff’s deputy was way over the line. Officers have been fired for less than this.”

Personaly I would need more details before coming to that conclusion. Wouldnt this situation normally result in a ticket? What did she do to warrant an arrest? Not enough details for me.

"Deputy Goad was aware that Boyd had not committed a crime and her arrest was without probable cause," according to the lawsuit filed in Houston. The magistrate who saw her while jailed apparently agreed and dismissed all charges.

I'm certainly not saying what the deputy did was right, but how much you want to bet she copped the "Entitled Black Women with a Chip on her Shoulder" attitude with him and he responded with some "respect my authoritah" attitude. Then the situation went downhill from there.

The cop sounds like a jerk to me. A woman pulls her car off the road because of mechanical trouble, and he arrests her for driving on the shoulder? Instead of arresting her, he should have helped her.

And deputies should be told to turn off talk radio when they arrest suspects to avoid being called "race-siss" by the suspects and the press.

Rush doesn't make derogatory comments about blacks.

Quite true. Rush's brand of heavily economic leaning conservative talk might not be to everyone's tastes, but I don't think he has a racist bone in his body.
