When I was a visiting professor in Turkey, I observed that while American university campuses are overrun with dogs that the students feed, my Turkish campus was host to lots of cats that the students fed. Most restaurants also had flocks of cats around them, looking for scraps.

The thing is, much of the really horrible stuff that Muslims believe is not in the Koran, including their bizarre hatred of dogs.

It’s all from some hadith or other, and there is no agreemont among Muslims as to which hadiths are “official” and which are not. And even if there were, the hadiths are nothing but recorded sayings from Mohammed.

Now one of the many ways to make a Muslim indignant is to call him a “Mohammedan.” Invariably they will get all huffy and contemptuosly inform us that “WE worship Allah, not Mohammed, so it’s incorrect to call us Mohammedans.”

But if that’s true, then where are the proscriptions against dogs (or the requirement of the burka) in the Koran?

There isn’t.

So I would ask a Muslim this: If you don’t worship Mohammed, then why do you adopt Mohammed’s dog-hatred as part of your “religion” when it isn’t in the Koran? Either you “only” worship Allah, or you worship dog-hating Mohammed too. Which is it?
