Rick Santorum: Early Primaries, Caucuses 'a Travesty'
ABC News Radio ^ | October 6, 2011

(WASHINGTON) -- Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum called the front loading of the primary schedule a “travesty” and placed blame for it on Mitt Romney and Rick Perry in an interview with ABC News.

[snip]

Santorum suggested that the leading candidates, especially Romney, are trying to “disrupt” the process to have the primaries so early that other candidates simply won’t have the time to build enough momentum to take on the front runners.

“Well this is clearly Mitt Romney and Rick Perry [who] I am sure are very interested in running the clock out,” Santorum told ABC News. “They are in a position where they have resources and name recognition. The shorter the time frame the less opportunity for other candidates to come up and catch them from behind.” ......

Santorum’s impression, the idea here was to explore the possibility of allowing private insurers to cover health services provided in either Texas or Mexico. It was an attempt at studying the deregulation of the provision of health insurance by private entities.”…...

At the rate we’re going, the run up for the 2016 election will begin before all the ballots are counted for 2012

He’s right. It’s absurd we’re running elections a year ahead of time just for a primary (and at this rate, we could hold the national conventions in February). They ALL need to be pushed forward back to where they used to be in the late Spring or Summer.

One thing is clear... most people are fed up with non-stop election cycles.

Santorum’s correct, completely correct. The purpose of the primaries is to vet candidates and is part of the electorates discovery process. Speeding that up benefits the insiders over the outsiders, the known over the unknown, and the deep pockets over the shallow. It isn’t good for our country.

Santorum’s correct,....

Listen to him whine in the interview. Blaming something states have been debating over for some time now, on the leading candidates.

It's ridiculous. I guess being first brings in $$$$$.

I disagree.

Sanotorum is right that the primary’s are too early.

He is wrong that Perry and Romney are the drivers behind it.

The Drivers behind it are the State who oved their dates up just to be first.
GREED mostly because they want the Money these guys spend.
PRESTIGE of being the First
In Florida’s case: They want a VOICE.

Florida has the only real reason for moving their primary
IT IS TIME WE ALL HAVE A VOICE.

It is absolute BS that by the time some states get to vote the Candidate has already been selected, and these states have no voice at all. OPEN primary’s where party lines mean nothing should have no primary’s at all. Those are a farce from beginning to end.

Ugh! I don’t know what it is...it is stupid and certainly not rational, but I can’t stand Santorum.

Just looking at him makes me want to slap him.

It is not his positions— I don’t really understand what it is, but my dislike is strong.

It also annoyed me when he said he would add a room onto the White House to fit all his kids. Just irked me, even if he was kidding.

Speeding that up benefits the insiders over the outsiders, the known over the unknown, and the deep pockets over the shallow.

Concur, but what Santorum loses on the one hand, he gains on the other. The primaries have been rigged to allow Dim crossovers in the early primaries stuff ballot boxes for "moderate" (RiNO/Wall Street) and "Me-Too" Pubbies.

Adding Southern (SC) and Western (Nev.) States to the mix should help conservatives -- with a bullet-point note that hmmmm, Nevada contains lots of Mormons, doesn't it?

Hmmm.

I'll tell you what a tragedy is... post 2008 election... Bill Bennett's Morning in America radio show... Michael Steele and Rick Santorum guest hosting... both men agree as Santorum says, “The Era of Reagan is over... the electorate has shifted to the left... our party must become more diverse... we must move more in the direction of the electorate”

Ronald Reagan 1975 CPAC speech:

“I don ‘t know about you, but I am impatient with those Republicans who after the last election rushed into print saying, “We must broaden the base of our party”—when what they meant was to fuzz up and blur even more the differences between ourselves and our opponents.

It was a feeling that there was not a sufficient difference now between the parties that kept a majority of the voters away from the polls. When have we ever advocated a closed-door policy? Who has ever been barred from participating?

Our people look for a cause to believe in. Is it a third party we need, or is it a new and revitalized second party, raising a banner of no pale pastels, but bold colors which make it unmistakably clear where we stand on all of the issues troubling the people?”

Screw Santorum.

Santorum says that the front tier leaders are running roughshod over Christmas — when it should be for families, etc. He is shameless in this blatant appeal for votes.

His remarks completely override any concern he has for the pushed up primary calendar which the STATES are doing.

A series of steps by Florida, South Carolina and most recently Nevada which just set its primary on Jan. 14 has raised the possibility that either New Hampshire or Iowa could move their contests to the month of December,

Hadn't heard that. If Nevada is on January 14, Iowa and/or New Hampshire could be in December.

PS
Rick Santorum couldn’t catch up if the primaries were all held in April
It’s a Romney Cain Perry race IMO
