The lawmaker who authored the California Dream Act said Saturday that Gov. Jerry Brown has signed the bill allowing Illegal immigrants attending California universities to receive state financial aid.
Brown's office declined comment, and an announcement on the legislation has not yet been made.
But Assemblyman Gil Cedillo (D-Los Angeles) said he was notified Saturday morning by the governor's aides that Brown has approved the measure, which makes illegal immigrants who are accepted into state universities eligible, starting in 2013, for Cal-Grant assistance.
The governors action also allows those without citizenship papers to tap into institutional grants while attending the University of California and California State University systems, and to get fee waivers in the California community college system.
Cedillo praised Brown as an "incredible leader with the vision and courage'' for signing the bill despite its great controversy.

imagine if all conservatives moved out of blue states.
Blue states would lose their electoral count, lose tax money etc
Red and border states would gain money, electoral count and if we made CO,VA,NM,FL all red then the left coudl not win an election
Trust me, nothing but my excellent job is keeping me here in Commiefornia... for now. For the record, I couldn’t afford to go to college and worked my way through promotions and building up my skills to be where I am professionally (beyond anything I’d ever dreamt of). California is such an amazingly beautiful & resource-rich place, but it’s being snuffed out by suicidal voters. Jerry f*’n Brown basically 2nd-flushing the swirl. OMG.
I love the tagline I saw....."heartless4Cain"
That is a bunch of difference from the Texas bill ( which I don't agree with either) that will allow anyone that attended 3 or more years of HS, and graduated from a Texas HS, to PAY the in-state rate for tuition.
Bite me, Brown.
Isn’t this against fed law?
If so then couldn’t this be took to the courts?
So this doesn’t give illegal aliens in state tuition?
“Have proof that every Muslim in every mosque in America is not “peaceably” assembling?”
Yea, it’s called the Koran, it’s in every mosque. You should read it.
They don't have to attend HS for 3 yrs. They can cross the border today and get in state tuition. That's not what the legislation says but that is the reality. They aren't supposed to cross the border illegally but they do it.
Ultimately, this will result in a cut off of all aid to the colleges, I predict.
Chalk up another for Carl Rove! He got Perry to switch parties!
I’m glad. Finally we have a liberal tax you don’t like. I always figured you loved illegal aliens. Imagine how much 10 million illegals pay in tobacco taxes.
You mean the CA bill? Yes it does, along with big buckets of cash to cover their tuition. That last part is a big difference.
The lawmaker who authored the California Dream Act said Saturday that Gov. Jerry Brown has signed the bill allowing Illegal immigrants attending California universities to receive legal citizen's hard earned tax-payed money.
This is AKA thievery.
Time to recall Brown!
These folks know that, but it doesn’t serve their cause... In the end, they’ll help destroy Perry and wind up with Romney
Circular firing squad. Pathetic
Just because they are all called “Dream Act” they are nothing alike in substance.
Texas Dream Act only allowed for in-state tuition for children of illegals, under conditions that they were in the state for 3 yrs, graduated high school and were in process of legalizing their situation.
CA was already providing this, and the current “CA Dream Act” gives them financial aid, with no conditions. See the article in the WSJ.
California Governor Signs Dream Act
“Under current law, undocumented students pay resident tuition rates if they have graduated from a California high school and affirmed that they are in the process of applying to legalize their immigration status. Starting January 1, 2013, those students will be eligible to apply for state-funded Cal Grants and other public aid.
The legislation builds on a previous bill signed into law in July, which makes financial aid from private sources available to the same pool of students. The two laws are collectively known as the California Dream Act.”
And of course the Federal “Dream Act” gives amnesty to any illegal who attends any school for a couple of years.
BIG difference between them.
Not in Texas, but they likely can in your state.
I'm not surprised.
