The military is part of the government. Its a bureaucracy that runs on blood and guts, organization and politics. Cain is a political neophyte and has no executive experience in government. Period. The same can not be said for Washington and Eisenhower as they both lead huge military forces in their day. Any comparisons are phony and fraudulent.

Earth to Clarity: a 9% sales tax is a good thing. It means everybody has a stake in government spending. More than that invites a black market.
First, the sales tax rates of the states are generally below 10%; there is empirical evidence that once the rate goes above 10%, it becomes almost impossible to prevent very high levels of tax fraud and evasion.
Second, even with the rates as they are now the states have a miserable time collecting the taxes that, technically, are due, and the higher the sales tax rate, the harder it is to collect that tax. New York is a good example - the general sales tax rate is 8.375% (higher in NYC) - and the state has so much trouble catching the tax cheats and collecting the tax that they resort to the methods that are morally and intellectually reprehensible. Without going into a lot of detail (until and unless someone asks me to do so), if a small business in New York gets one calendar quarter behind on its sales tax payments, it is almost always the case that the owner should simply shut the business down and prepare to pay the unpaid taxes out of his or her own pocket for as long as it takes to do so - and it can take a very, very long time to do so because (a) the interest rate on unpaid sales tax in NYS is 14%, (b) unpaid sales taxes will become the personal liability of the business-owner, regardless of whether the business is a sole proprietorship or a corporation, and (c) the liability for unpaid sales tax cannot be discharged in bankruptcy - not ever, even if NYS chases you for 20 years (which is now the statute of limitations on collections, before this year, collections was effectively unlimited as to time, so long as NYS managed to hit a bank account of yours for a few bucks every 19 years or so).
Most other states are about as abusive of their residents as NYS is when it comes to collecting sales tax.
The severity of the techniques used to collect a tax are directly proportional to the difficulty of collecting the proper amount of tax and the ease with which the tax can be evaded or fraudulently taken; therefore, the fact that states use such draconian, offensive, morally indefensible methods to collect a measly 8.375% sales tax indicates that the problems attendant on collecting the correct amount of tax, and the ease with which the tax can be evaded or the revenues stolen by the retailer who is supposed to pay it over to the state are very, very substantial.
If you’d like more detail, as well as at least one proof-of-principal strategy for milking a large retail sales tax system, let me know.

Bad policy! Americans are taxed to death as it is. Conservatives want to see serious tax reform, but we don't want or need a national sales tax. That opens up a Pandora's box. Cain's plan is unrealistic and frankly, dumb. Whose to say that once the Dems regain power they change 9-9-9, to 12-12-12, or 15-15-15 or 18-18-18! No thanks. Besides, Cain came up with his 999 tax plan for one reason. To grab attention. It will never be taken seriously.

To tax income is unconscionable. A man (or woman) should never be taxed on the sweat of their brow.
WOW! Guess your school never got around to teaching you about government and civics. You need to find a copy of the Constitution quickly and read it.
Article 2, Section 2, Clause 1:
The President shall be Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and of the Militia of the several States
The Dept of Defense is part of the Executive Branch of the federal government. If I was you I'd ask for a refund from your whatever school you went to. You obviously were ripped off.
Show us the avowed Communists and Terrorists with whom Cain hung around in his youth; show us where Cain has hidden all his transcripts, passports, scholarships, school records, and personal data; show us where Cain bowed to the king of Saudi Arabia; show us where Cain had to read from a teleprompter; show us where Cain said in an interview with George Stepanopoulos "my Muslim faith"; show us where Cain crowed about being "five days from the fundamental transformation of the United States of America".
And show us where Cain was accused of doing cocaine for homosexual fellatio.
And show us where Obaama ever had a real PAYING job, let alone one which required him to have a security clearance.
And compare Cain's Baptist Church to the Irrev. Jeremiah "God D@mn America, US of KKK A" Wright.

Cain’s plan has deep roots in massive tax reform plans that have been pushed by conservatives for decades, such as the Fair Tax and the Flat Tax.
The author of this piece is full of it. About all he is trying to point out is that there is a danger that the income tax rate will continue to go up. Duh. Everything that Congress does can be screwed up by future Congresses. That is not a reason to avoid any attempt at massive reform and, instead, fix “the devil we know.”
WTH does that mean anyway?
The national sales tax will be subject to market forces. People will contract discretionary consumer spending as they need or want to. It empowers each individual to pay only as much tax on goods as he wants (by purchasing or not).
The income tax rates — well, duh! — We The People will have to keep on Congress from here on out to keep them from screwing us again like they did with the first income tax.
Not a reason to not go for. Anyone who is not advocating MASSIVE TAX REFORM is not serious about addressing our country’s problems.
Can you explain your opposition to the substance of the plan, beyond simply calling it idiotic?
