On the flat patch of the Texas Plains where Rick Perry grew up, the years are measured in harvests and rainfall.
Rustic is putting too high a gloss on it. Until he was 7 years old, there was no indoor plumbing and the family used an outhouse. Bathing consisted of filling a galvanized metal tub on the screened-in back porch. When the wind blew, the dry dust from the fields seeped through the cracks in the planks and settled, much to his mother's dismay, on the couch and chairs.
"It was a really old house. But it was home," Perry said.

I can tell you, that any boy growing up in West Texas knows how to work. It was especially hard then and not much better now. Not a place I ever wanted to live. The article was excellent and provided greater insight into Perry and his belief systems.

Your comments and ugly name calling is not needed to convey your opinion. Your purpose is very clear.

Not a bad article, except that it fails to explain why Perry didn't study harder in school, (C's and D's, basically a scholastic dumb ass), instead of applying himself like Herman Cain who went on to become an actual rocket scientist for the United States Navy, calculating ballistic missile trajectories with his degree in mathematics.
