Serving up Rick Perry (barbecue comment)
LA Times ^ | Oct 9, 2011 | Robert F. Moss

Rick Perry's past came back to haunt him recently. No, not drugs or women or a phony resume. Perry, it turns out, once touched the real third rail of politics: barbecue.

Nineteen years ago, at the 1992 Republican National Convention, a barbecue taste-off pitted beef tenderloin from Joe Allen's Bar-B-Que of Abilene, Texas, against pulled pork from Kings Restaurant in Kinston, N.C. Perry, then the agriculture commissioner of Texas, sampled the Carolina barbecue and declared, "I've had road kill that tasted better than that."

TWENETY years ago he made a comment about barbecue and now this is a big deal?! The MSM has already been writing several articles about it, they had a poll, where 40% of the people wouldn't vote for him, because of his comment.

In the meantime, hardly any articles or polls about his record of job creation, his agenda of low taxes, low regulations, "making the Federal government as inconsequential in our lives as possible" is NOT being mentioned.

“The reaction in North Carolina was swift. Newspaper columnists declared Perry unfit for office and demanded a retraction. A representative of the Smithfield’s Chicken N’ Bar-B-Q chain mailed Perry 2 pounds of pork barbecue and an open letter encouraging him to “revisit your experience with Eastern North Carolina Bar-B-Q and … rectify your statement.”

Hell....I've seen Gordon Ramsey spit food out..and these cooks were going for the big league.

Went to a Chili cookoff this year.....8 of the 10 I wouldn't think of eating again.

Tastebuds are funny things. I'd never take anything personally....My kids wouldn't dare!!

The hardest thing to swallow is the propaganda being peddled. Just who are they asking about this? 5th graders?

Just got in from the store and standing in the check-out line I glanced at the trash rack and there was the Nat Enquirer and on the corner the headline read: “Rick Perry Linked to the Ku Klux Klan!”

It’s evil and it’s despicable. People falling for this (if any truly are) are unlearned zombies.

I have to agree that many are stuck on stupid. There is stupid, and then there is so stupid that I wonder how that person is still breathing. I’ve heard this story before, and anyone who lets it influence their vote is not very bright.

TWENETY [sic] years ago he made a comment about barbecue

That's a rather heartless comment to make about another southern state's staple food.

Eastern N.C. pulled pork for crock pot/slow cooker

What a shock when I moved this fifth generation Texan relocated to Georgia and experienced a BBQ. Having very little experince outside the Lone Star State I assumed all BBQs involved beef. I was absolutely shocked to see white meat (pork) under the sauce.
Brisket is next to impossible to find! Oh how I miss brisket and Tex- Mex food.
The upside, during our town’s annual BBQ cook off, I am given brisket free as the locals will not eat it, much less buy it.

“anyone who lets it influence their vote is not very bright.”

GOP rivals drop behind Obama in N.C. poll

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2790086/posts

“The survey also found that Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s comments back in 1992 that he had tasted road kill that tasted better than Eastern North Carolina barbecue were not helpful. The poll found that 75 percent of Tar Heel voters disagreed with that statement, and 40 percent of voters were less likely to vote for him because of that statement.”
