So be it.

There will always be such among us.

However, there will be a large percentage of blacks who have been uncomfortable if not outright disgusted with the welfare plantations and their abuses and their stripping people of incentive and aspiration for a long time. (See link below.)

They just might not have been at a place where they could jump to the GOP yet -- sort of like the conservative Episcopalian who stays in the denomination a long time, hoping to reform it from within.

These are the people who are ready and willing to move into full engagement with the American Dream. Once they figure out they are not alone, and that they can withstand the jawboning of the Sharptons of the world, many will make that walk.

It's free - just swipe your EBT [Electronic Benefits Transfer card, the new welfare check] (Warning: Explicit)

Doesn’t matter.

Also, I don’t think all of the people on welfare care a lick about getting off it. It’s a comfortable “living” and you get to do what you want. They are content — free house, free food, free cell phone, free bus pass, free utilities, free medical — and you can charge “racism” if anyone messes with you or disses your self-respect or initiative. What’s not to love if that’s what you love?

The Dems need close to 100% of the black vote to win ANY election. If the GOP peeled off 10-20% of the black vote, the Dems could never win again.

This will never happen. The Conservative message of personal responsibility, working hard, being frugal, and pulling yourselves up by your bootstraps is just too much daggone work.

Bill Cosby and a collaborator wrote a book a while back, the title of which is: “Come On, People!” In it they cover ALL the stuff supposedly “holding blacks back” and why 99% of it is the fault of the individual. They give the PRECISE coordinates of where the bear defacated in the buckwheat!

“They weren’t held back because of racism,” Cain said. “People sometimes hold themselves back because they want to use racism as an excuse for them not being able to achieve what they want to achieve.”

I honestly believe Cain is the best hope for the black community to come along in decades. The black community have truly been brainwashed by the race baiters and liberal excuse makers eager to keep blacks down and beholding to them. It is a vicious circle when unemployment hits blacks so disproportionately yet they are brought up in a culture where doing well in school is frowned upon as being “too white”. Go Cain, I am solidly in your corner with my vote and pocketbook.

... I hate to say it this early in the season, but every day Cain says or does something to convince me that he's the right man for the presidency. ..

I was about to post the same thing. He doesn't come across as a run of the mill slime politician in it for ego gratification.

I wasn’t especially keen on his saying that being poor was always the fault of the poor,

I don't think he said always, he said in many cases or words to that effect.

Al Sharpton is saying that Herman Cain is only 3/5ths of a black man !!

Dumass Sharpton. Not the sharpest knife in the drawer. The 3/5ths compromise was a victory for the anti-slave forces:

The Three-Fifths compromise was a compromise between Southern and Northern states reached during the Philadelphia Convention of 1787 in which three-fifths of the enumerated population of slaves would be counted for representation purposes regarding both the distribution of taxes and the apportionment of the members of the United States House of Representatives. It was proposed by delegates James Wilson and Roger Sherman.

Delegates opposed to slavery generally wished to count only the free inhabitants of each state. Delegates supportive of slavery, on the other hand, generally wanted to count slaves in their actual numbers. Since slaves could not vote, slaveholders would thus have the benefit of increased representation in the House and the Electoral College. The final compromise of counting "all other persons" as only three-fifths of their actual numbers reduced the power of the slave states relative to the original southern proposals, but increased it over the northern position.

The Black left just dismiss him as an Uncle Tom, preferring instead the comforts of Generational welfare

Once upon a time, I had a young black man working for me who was also pursuing a masters degree in Russian studies. He came from an area of SC that was apparently entrenched in the welfare state of mind. His own family disowned him because he could not let well enough alone as they saw it. Instead he went out and used his excellent mind to try and better himself.

When he told me about how his family treated him, it broke my heart. I just could not even imagine it. But he treated it as a cost he knew he would pay when he decided to make something of himself. It took me awhile. But I think I do understand a little tiny part of it...He exposed the potential that existed by excelling. That could could not be left without condemnation of his effort, otherwise the poor existence that everyone in his family lived was their own fault. And that is what Mr Cain will have to face too. This should be really interesting.

Booker T. Washington knew about such people back in the 1890s.
