DNC Attacks Romney Flip-Flops--But Why Now?
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Posted on 10/10/2011 1:36:08 PM PDT by governsleastgovernsbest

Being a proud cyber-card carrying, if non-contributing, member of the Democratic National Committee's email list, I just received a missive entitled "Test your knowledge: Take the Mitt quiz." Clicking along takes one to a DNC site called "WhichMitt.com" at which readers are asked to guess whether, on a variety of subjects from abortion to the Detroit bail-out, Romney said the first statement, the second statement, or all of the above.

Of course the answer in every case is "all of the above." And there's no doubt that if nominated, and before, Mitt will have some 'splaining to do . . .

Why is anyone voting for this guy? What makes him better than the other candidates?

Nothing makes him better and all of the above makes him worst. His supporters are stuck on stupid.

“Why is anyone voting for this guy? What makes him better than the other candidates?”

Volume, and the inherent love of political machines for the utterly amoral.

The Dems obviously believe he is the toughest to beat, so they'd rather get rid of him now.

Whatever we conservatives might think of Romney’s flip-flops, I think you are on to something.

No, the strategy is to not try to swat all the bugs but wait until there is only one bug left. Their internal polling probably shows that he's going to win the nomination so it's time to squash him.

No tricks please. I don’t think Romney can beat Obama and even if I thought he could - I would never choose him.

Exactly... ever other moron,...from the media to even freepers didn’t focus on eliminating Romney and guess what, they’ll try to beat him in the generals by doing what we should have been doing early on in the primaries!?

Instead the stupid party reigns again!

Because they want to run against Cain

Another possibility is that they now see him as the likely nominee after the collapse of Perry. If it was simply a matter of seeing him as the toughest to beat, they would have went after him sooner. Why wait until his supposed number one challenger for the nomination goes into a meltdown? I do not think that they see Cain as having the money and campaign apparatus to stay with Romney throughout the Primaries. I hope that they are wrong about that assessment.

It's just a strategy to sour the base on him. Perhaps the White House sees an opportunity in weakening the eventual nominee because they know passion and turnout will be critical to 2012.

Perhaps they'd be happy running against Cain because he lacks the political experience filter; he'll make gaffes they can exploit and will happily do so.

Frankly, if I were this White House, I'd be overjoyed by the candidates who have decided to run for the Republican nomination. It's flat out amazing no stronger candidate chose to run.

Why now?

Two possible theories:

  1. Maybe they prefer running against the other good-haired RINO.
  2. Maybe they want to keep both RINOs close to each other in the polls so they spend all their campaign funds running against each other and keep the focus off genuine conservative alternatives like Herman Cain.

I have a theory: they wanted to crush Perry and feel their work is done. They want Romney as the nominee, but they want him weak.

>>The Dems obviously believe he is the toughest to beat, so they'd rather get rid of him now.<<

I have a different take on that. I think it’s because they think he’s the presumptive candidate knowing what the Republican insiders and movers and shakers are trying to get accomplished. It simply telegraphs what we are fighting against within the Republican party.
