N.Korea Moves Arms Closer to Border 10/13/11
North Korea has recently moved fighter jets near the Northern Limit Line, the de facto maritime border, and ground-to-air missiles close to Baeknyeong Island. There is speculation that it plans a minor provocation while South Korean president Lee Myung-bak visits the U.S. since any show of unity between the two allies tends to incense the North.
"The North Korean military was seen moving mobile missile launchers at a ground-to-ship missile base near the NLL," a government source said. "There's likelihood that the North will launch a military provocation" while Lee is away.
The government is closely watching movements of North Korean artillery units.
An intelligence source said, "The North Korean Army is showing movements similar to those seen right before it shelled Yeonpyeong Island last year."
Lee was quoted by a source as saying prior to his departure for Washington, "If the North launches a provocation during a Seoul-Washington summit, it will become an international issue rather than a domestic one." He instructed the military to "strongly respond" if the North does.
That having been said, the NK's are masters of the feint because the fact is, they can't stand up against SK more than a week or so.
Moving food closer might cause the largest border stampede in history.

I believe this is connected to the current issues with Iran right now. When/if we move on Iran, NK may well plan on moving south to aid their buddies.
In NK, the greedy corporations get all the food.
The North Koreans make threats regularly. Sometimes they shoot. Usually they're trying to get shakedown money. Fortunately, if things get bad, the South Korean military is quite capable of taking care of itself without American help.
As my Korean niece's US Army recruiter said when she found out that my niece's father was in the South Korean Special Forces: “Those guys are bad-ass dudes!”
South Korea needs the United States as a guarantee against China. North Korea can cause major devastation, and the Kim dynasty is so crazy they might actually start a war, but what the North starts, the South can finish, with or without America.
Why? South Korea is one of China's largest trading partners. The only value of North Korea to China is as a buffer zone against forward U.S. military deployments on their border. Today isn't 1950. A hot war, where China faced losing trade with the U.S., Japan, and South Korea would be disastrous for China.
Kinda makes you think about what the heck does “strongly respond” means???
