Anita Perry: Husband Rick Perry "brutalized" by media, the GOP because of his faith
Dallas News ^ | 10/13/11 | Wayne Slater

Anita Perry, campaigning for husband Rick Perry in South Carolina, suggests he's been "brutalized" by the media and the GOP because of his faith. Perry is the most religiously expressive candidate in the Republican field. He hosted a seven-hour Christian prayer rally in August in advance of entering the presidential race. And at last week's Values Voters Summit, he was introduced by a Dallas Baptist pastor who said rival Mitt Romney is not a Christian and Mormonism is a cult.

Perry has suffered several extremely bad weeks, stumbling in the debates and losing the coveted endorsement of New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who's backing Romney. Here, in emotional remarks at a South Carolina campaign stop, Anita Perry said:

"It's been a rough month. We have been brutalized and beaten up and chewed up in the press to where I need this today. We are being brutalized by our opponents, and our own party. So much of that is, I think, they look at him because of his faith. He is the only true conservative - well, there are some true conservatives. And they're there for good reasons. And they may feel like God called them too. But I truly feel like we are here for that purpose."

Here's the full 15-minute appearance -- a remarkable, emotional address threaded with religious references in which at one point (about 3 minutes in) she nearly breaks down, then (8 minutes in) makes the comments about the brutal campaign and later recalls someone who told Perry his political troubles were a divine test: "God is testing you because he wants you to know when you're in the White House, how you got there." It was a public show of emotion, not unlike Hillary Clinton breaking down in tears

This is a pr disaster, .....She’s behaving like Angela Lansbury in the Manchurian Candidate!

Way too much drama for my taste in a potential first lady but, well, Texans are known to exagerate pretty much everything in a big way so this is not really surprising when you consider.

Even so with the country so unstable we don't need to see candidates wives blubbering....rather a quiet and steady affect on their husbands run....this lacked that greatly.

I just read a very similar post to yours at the DUmp. It sounded like words from an elitist snob there, too.

Don’t tell me how sophisticated non-Texans are after those people voted in droves for Obama.

October 11, 2011.

Trolling against Christians this week, huh? How heartless.

Makes you long for Lady Bird’s decorum!

Texans need to realize that they are no longer in Texas when they run for the presidency.

It may very well be the ruin of Christie. But more importantly he’s the poster child of the RINO. Goes the conservative way on an issue or two to get our vote then reverts to true self.

Back in the day (when I was still working) I remember a guy we all loathed. He was fat, like Christie, and he tried (desperately) to be liked. But he just could not restrain himself from screwing the people he was wooing (toward some personal promotion). He was a former reservist then serving as civilian staff of an artillery battalion. We called him foxtrot foxtrot. Translation: fat f***.

I give you Christie.

For those of you who are offended, you can stuff it. These people are destroying my country. It is war. I make no apologies.

Did he bring up the rock thing today or yesterday? That was a mistake if he did. I think he wants out and is deliberately sabotaging his own efforts.

I would prefer to see Newt with all his imperfections win just because I think he can articulate to the people the things that need changed in order to get this country back

Yea, he does have a stabilizing nature about himself...something the people need to see I think....the nation has plenty enough drama going on these days, nice to see Newt maintain a seriousness about the nation and can indeed well articulate what needs to be done.

Remember in the first debate he pointed out the seriousness of this election and the games are not conducive to finding the right candidate. That caught my attention as well as other things he spoke of....for I had not considered him really at all.

Since then, and despite him not having much face time with the public in these debates,...what he does say he's been on the money about and has the conviction to go with what he is saying. I for one am paying attention to Newt...

I did find information that although people are still trying to associate him with Pelosi's Global Warming agenda...he backed way off from that once the facts were in and in fact has petitions oppossing this. So that is not an issue for me now as once was.....many believed in global warming who no linger do for the reasons Newt changed his stance about....and rightfully so!

Trolls often hate Christians. Perry’s credentials didn’t simply pop up one day. He and his family walk the walk. He’s a respected sitting governor and you’re not. You probably loathed Palin too.

You have to be courageous to run for president. For many candidates, an unshakeable belief in God goes with the territory.

Yep! The more I consider what the nation needs the more I see our candidate needs to come off as clear and precise...Perry's been tripping over his own feet since he declared and as much in the debates....he's speaking to us all not just to Texans and it's clear he hasn't gotten that yet....and obvious neither has his wife.

Leftist Yankee hellholes, I'm sure. Sounds a little DU-ish with some of these folks, doesn't it?

They have no idea how blatantly they're displaying their insecurity and bitterness with their childish posts.

If they get their wish of another Obama term, we're not going to let them in. ;-)

Exceedingly well-put, without using a word! Indeed, the man blew up on the launching pad. I have nothing against him, but clearly he is not up to the job (of running for POTUS).

Did he bring up the rock thing today or yesterday? That was a mistake if he did. I think he wants out and is deliberately sabotaging his own efforts.

It was a question asked of him that was published yesterday - using the examples of the rock and Confederate symbols being removed from buildings, he was asked if Northerners don't understand Texans. They were obviously looking for him to kiss the ass of Iowa voters and give one of those sweeping answers to make Iowans feel good about themselves, but he had to go and talk about how he's proud of how he dealt with the rock, how his family dealt with it, the "media elites" saying all Southerners with accents are racist, and basically inviting the media to look at the rock thing all over again.

It's possible he had no say in the matter of the release, but given that he's stopping in Iowa tomorrow, he knew it would be released yesterday or today. The Iowa news people are rushing out interviews, etc. ahead of his appearance tomorrow.

Reading the interview, in retrospect, this was not a strategy. He gave a dumb answer in an interview (probably email) that invited it to be brought back up, and his wife breaking down and bitching about Republicans and Democrats brutalizing him was just that - her breaking down and bitching about Republicans and Democrats.

What does faith have to do with being narcissistic enough to believe God “chose” you to become President?

And I liked Palin a lot. She didn’t have the narcissistic entitlement complex a lot of career politicians like La Raza Rick do.

I take it back what I said about this being tied to Perry and the rock thing and being misdirection. I think she really is that stupid to be bitching about Democrats and Republicans. She’s not trying to rally Christians to Perry’s defense, she’s just blaming Democrats and Republicans for his problems.

As a Texan living in Pennsylvania they can all kiss my grits. After living in the north all these years I say they have a lot of nerve putting down a self sufficient state like Texas when the state capital here in PA is on the fast track to bankruptcy.
