“The “you don’t like Rick because he’s religious” strategy is much better than “you don’t like Rick because of all of these other things” strategy. “
So I guess you’re implying that Cain would be doing better if his wife complained that the Republicans not supporting him are only against him because of his race?
If not, explain the difference please.

The difference is that Cain isn't lagging behind in polls or giving sub-par debate performances and so his wife doesn't feel the need to go out and cast blame on Democrats and Republicans or try to explain away his problems on something completely different.
Anita Perry is engaging in misdirection - only a fool would think that Perry's problems are religious in nature and not due to his record, policies, or debate performances. If anybody was going to suffer because of their religious views, Perry would have to stand in line behind Romney, Huntsman, and Bachmann.
Having said that, and having watched the video of her twice now, I'm beginning to think she really believes what she is saying. It's still misdirection, but it's not deliberate misdirection. Which is scary because that is a sign of somebody who is way out of touch. I doubt she would be able to handle a general election, not if she's acting like this now.
