I think I knew LA was finished as a great city back in the 70s when the school district instituted a bussing program that resulted in a mass exodus from the San Fernando Valley.
But there have probably been other equally vivid signs that it was time to put a fork in it.

No grant needed. Joseph Schumpeter wrote a classic book about this over 60 years ago, “Capitalism, Socialism, and Democracy”.
He described how capitalism had spawned a ‘New Class’ that had none of the virtues of the entrepreneurs and capitalists that had enabled them to live their lives of relative leisure. A New Class that envied the success of those businessmen and would seek to regulate and control them and take their wealth through politics.
Didn’t interventions like this used to be the job of the CIA?

Martial law is FEDERALIZED - meaning military in the streets.
States would be REQUIRED to support. There’s nothing “voluntary” about that.
New Hampshire (Live Free or Die) might.
Maine (Governor LePage and his new GOP State House) might.
The other Northeastern socialist paradises would probably support it.
Not only that, he outright stated the NAACP is a "special interest group"

If you were around and old enough during the Civil Right act, the military were called out when the Governor of Alabama REFUSED a lawful order to allow blacks to enter a white school.....Lawful order is the key words. They were escorted into school with the military standing by...It wasn’t just some whim of the president...
