President Obama has deployed combat troops to central Africa to aid in the fight against the Lord's Resistance Army. In a letter to Speaker of the House John Boehner, Obama says 12 troops with "appropriate combat equipment" were deployed on October 12 and approximately 100 in total will be deployed including a second combat team and headquarters, communications and logistics personnel. The forces will provide information and advise and assist "select partner nation forces," Obama explains. The troops will not fight except in self-defense. The full letter is after the jump.

“Please tell me you are kidding. Everything I’ve heard about the LRA is they are a sicko bunch”

Saying I was wrong for the 10th time. I was just repeating what Rush said. But moments after posting I realized Rush shoud have done his homework. My error for not double checking him.

He is sending only 100? To do what? Die for his vanity and worthless sense of right and wrong? As good as our troops are, I cannot see sending such a half assed measure of troops in would do anything positive.

They probably are not. Just one more case of Obama getting our troops killed for nothing.

He must want to wipe out special forces.

The Lord’s Resistance Army are Christians who are fighting against the Muslims and corrupt regimes.

Not even close. Their leaders is a whacko who thinks he is The Prophet and Messiah. They are as brutal as they come. They have killed plenty of Christians including, Pastors, Priests, nuns and missionaries. The kidnap children and keep them on drugs turning them into child soldiers.

I have friends who have worked there as missionaries and Pastors...and have two friends who are there right now as missionary leaders in Uganda.

I don't trust Obama one iota and his sending troops there is trouble I am sure but you don't know what you are talking about.

Many, many victims of this group are Christians, and to my knowledge, the religion of the victims is irrelevant to these people. Do I know if there was a specific church mission attacked, no I don’t. Many people in Uganda and in Rwanda are Christian and they are as much or more the victims of this group as any other.

Even now, with the news breaking, the Ugandans are becoming concerned because if the US claims to go in to solve this problem, and does not, then they are deathly afraid of the retaliation that this group will undertake.

This group maintains a strong spy network throughout all of the towns and villages in the country looking for people who speak ill of them. They are reported and then in short order are never seen again. They just disappear. So no one speaks of it even among family members.

Many of the child soldiers are kidnapped at a young age and trained to kill early on, and are remorseless automatons that do Kony’s bidding. This is truly the blackest evil I can name.

OK already. I have been corrected 12 times now. Should have done my own homework instead of posting Rush Limbaugh’s comment.

Not to rain on anyone's parade but at any given time our spec ops teams are active in about 80 foreign countries (plus or minus). Hopefully, there will be a target rich environment in Africa, and our taxpayer trained snipers hunter-killers will fill their tags before the season ends. Let the law of physics rule the day (bullet hitting bone). Obama is like the proverbial clock that is broken yet right twice a day. He has been able to push the homosexual agenda successfully during his administration AND what his predecessor did militarily and THAT is about it, regarding actual effectiveness as a President of a nation and CIC. What he is trying to achieve is of another world...

The true issue is why now? Why here? What is in it for him? Who is calling the shots here?

Good questions. How does this benefit US interests and foreign policy? What does Hillary (you know, our Sec. of State) say regarding this??? I stand by my tagline.

What a news dump on a Friday afternoon....

Why, Mr. President, would you do this thing now?
What is happening in the world that will possibly have some bearing on this? First and foremost, there is conflict between Soudan and South Soudan, because one has the oil, and the other would like to have it, and can control the passage of the oil through it as a chokepoint.
China has recently announced big plans to build up the oil infrastructure in South Sudan.
The Republican debates started talking about our trade policy with China, with at least one front runner talking about changing the way things are done to the detriment of China’s current trade practices.
Places like South Africa are heavily involved in trade with China, to the extent that they will not allow the Dahli Lama to go there as it would offend the Chinese. You know this happened because the Chinese threatened some sort of retaliation, and they have the clout now to do it.
The high tech communications industry needs rare Earth metals and minerals that are found in large measure in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Joseph Kony and the LRA travel and hide throughout large areas of the DRC and surrounding countries to avoid detection and capture. The area is extremely vast and difficult to travel, with many unsettled parts. (Deepest, darkest Africa) There is no infrastructure or authority in those parts other than by the point of a gun.
To get the rare Earth materials that both the US and China need, there needs to be peace in the DRC, which means the fighting troublemakers need to be eliminated.
It is an excuse to say that Kony and the LRA are the reason we are going in there. My hypothesis is that we are competing with China for the rare Earth minerals.
When we stabilize the situation, after a long term build-up of forces, we may or may not have dealt with Kony and the LRA. Either way, if he is not taken out, he will be strengthened by our failure, and his god-complex will increase asymptotically. He will exercise his right by his perceived devine intervention to retaliate against the people of Uganda and Rwanda. He will kill many innocents.
These people cannot defend themselves, and in general have no firepower to do so. They are the mercy of those with machetes. The LRA has weapons, and guess who sold it to them? Think frogs, and you’d be right.
So if we don’t do this right, the deaths of all of these people will be on Obama. When it is time to cast blame for the deaths of all of these people, on whose shoulders will you try to place it, Mr. President?
