Obama Sends 100 US Troops to Uganda to Help Combat Lord’s Resistance Army

Two days ago President Obama authorized the deployment to Uganda of approximately 100 combat-equipped U.S. forces to help regional forces “remove from the battlefield” – meaning capture or kill – Lord’s Resistance Army leader Joseph Kony and senior leaders of the LRA.

The forces will ultimately go to Uganda, South Sudan, the Central African Republic, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, with the permission of those countries.

The president made this announcement in a letter to House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, Friday afternoon, saying that “deploying these U.S. Armed Forces furthers U.S. national security interests and foreign policy and will be a significant contribution toward counter-LRA efforts in central Africa.”

Actually it was 100 combat troops “plus logistical personel”. That could end up being over a thousand boots on the ground, easily.

I only know what I just learned from Rush, but the Lord’s Resistance Army is a Christian group fighting against Muslims. And Obama is sending troops to eradicate them.

Interesting contradiction. Rush just said they were a Christian group fighting against Muslims, and read a statement that explains their existence, which we would support. Wonder what the real truth is?

Obama spent $27Million of our tax dollars to help Kenya rewrite its national constitution. No surprise then that the eligibility requirement for the Kenyan presidency was altered so BHO2 is now eligible. He has his bolt hole all ready and waiting!

The Lord’s Resistence Army is Christian, though their tactics are hardly those of saints. Per Wikipedia:

“In January 1987, Joseph Kony made his first appearance as a spirit medium, one of many who emerged after the initial success of the Holy Spirit Movement of Alice Auma. Former Uganda People’s Democratic Army commander Odong Latek convinced Kony to adopt conventional guerrilla warfare tactics, primarily surprise attacks on civilian targets, such as villages. The LRA also occasionally carried out large-scale attacks to underline the inability of the government to protect the populace. Until 1991 the LRA raided the populace for supplies, which were carried away by villagers who were abducted for short periods...”

They are supposedly known to be brutal and use child soldiers. So, does that mean they’re different from the opposition who are every bit as brutal and use child soldiers?

Why in Hell are we always supporting Muslims and opposing Christians fighting for their very existance?

They need to amend the War Powers Act by creating a “Joint Standing Security Committee” in Congress made up of an equal number of Representatives and Senators from both political parties to review and approve or void any requests by a sitting American President to dispatch American forces overseas. The Committee should make their decisions based PURELY on America’s best interests and the chances of military success.

We can no longer trust a President - any President - of either political party, with the kind of UNSUPERVISED military power they have had in the past.

This group the LRA, appears to be a group of brutal fanatical extremists, whose loss the world would little regret. But the degree to which our own national interests my be involved in this situation is highly questionable.

Obama is acting in an increasingly irresponsible manner with handling the most powerful military force the world has ever seen. This can no longer be permitted to continue unsupervised.

How does this enhance US security? He views the US military as a novel toy for satisfying his whims, or a cross between social servants and fitness trainers.

Anybody doubt that he’s a Muslim, now?

Two days ago a Iran distraction, today a war.

The Lord’s Resistance Army is a maniacal apocalyptic cult led by a self-proclaimed Protestant preacher; however, it is like Mormonism, also a Protestant by-product, in that it is a syncretist cult led by a self-proclaimed prophet and simply has a few Christian and OT references in its crazy soup. It is violent and vicious and should be stopped.

But the reason it is called “Resistance” was that its founder saw himself as resisting the Muslims, and the fighting has been mostly between these two groups (although I believe the LRA has also attacked some Christian missions).

However, there are numerous things that should be stopped in Africa and I don’t see why this one is suddenly important enough to merit unilateral intervention by the US. There are no US interests there, except of course for Obama’s personal interests. And now that he regards the US military as existing to carry out his whims, I guess that’s sufficient.

The LRA is a terrorist group.

Sam Chliders aka Machine Gun Preacher recused many children from them.

Kony is a bad dude.

And just watch, this is the tip of the iceberg. There is a hidden agenda. Because to “support” the troops, we will rebuild the Entebbe airport to USAF standards. Build roads, hospitals, schools, pour in every concievable type of supplies, food, fuel, technology.

100 troops will be supported by the largest cash transfer in recent history.

Hmmm.....I seem to remember another was in the 60’s that started out with us sending some ‘advisors’ over to help the local military.

They need to amend the War Powers Act by creating a “Joint Standing Security Committee”

No way, the President of the United States (Executive Branch) is the only branch of Government that represents the collective will of the American People. Congress only represents the collective will of the states that sent them. That power must remain with the President who will answer directly to the American People, not to the People of individual states.

Obama needs as many distraction from the current scandals as he can get. He thought about going to war with his good buddy Imanutjob, but that’s temporaraly on the back burner, just milking that one will be a major distraction. Look for multiple little spats here and there, as the scandals build, then major distractions toward the calls for impeachment.

We really shouldn’t care. The days of US playing international peacekeeper must end. It was never our job.

The reason we’re still in Europe and Japan is political and strategic, but both should be re-examined in light of an empty Treasury and hostilities along our southern border.

Defending Muslims in Europe, ME, and in Africa is self-wounding, and the State Department is the most likely culprit for that stance.

Under the Constitution, only the Congress, NOT the President, has the power to declare war.

I believe the war powers act was adopted to provide to the exigencies of current military situations where a formal declaration of war is not made and an imminent military emergency exists. Obama has violated the War Powers Act by continuing to maintain American Forces in the field in Libya beyond the timeframe permitted under that act. In this situation, he, like Clinton before him, has committed American forces in a situation where America’s direct interests do not appear to be directly involved.

The President, under the Consitution, has the sole power to direct the military and carry on war, but only after approval of Congress.
