Schultz says 'break' is a 'southern racist term' (Special Ed Schultz of MessNBC)
Washington Examiner ^ | 10/14/11 | Jol Gehrke

Posted on 10/14/2011 2:40:19 PM PDT by MissesBush

Ed Schultz, host of MSNBC's the Ed Show, believes that Republican presidential contender Herman Cain is pandering to "white Republicans out there who don't like black folks" and accused Sen. Jim Demint, R-S.C., of using racist langauge in his opposition to Obamacare.

On his show last night, Schultz said that Demint, whom Cain has mentioned as a potential running mate, repeated an "old southern racist term when talking about defeating President Obama during the health care debate." Schultz's example? He quoted Demint saying that "If we are able to stop Obama on this [health care law], it will be his Waterloo. It will break him." For clarity, Schultz repeated the offending line, "It will break him."

Dr. James Peterson, director of Africana studies at Lehigh University, explained that "break" is a racist verb, "a term that was used to destroy, mentally and physically, slaves." Accordingly, the Demint line demonstrated "how dark some of these racial discourses can be in presidential politics." Peterson said that Cain, by naming Demint as a possible VP pick, "gives those folks a pass" on racism.

Peterson's claim echoed and extended Schultz's conclusion the previous evening that Cain, a black Republican, is appealing to white racists in order to win the Republican primary. "You think about white Republicans who don't like black folks," Schultz explained. "It's almost as if this guy is trying to warm up to them and tell them what they want to hear."

Schultz cited Cain's belief that education gaps, rather than racism, accounts for the poverty and unemployment among black Americans. Then, Schultz asked his guest if Cain "is doing a disservice to his race" by denying that "racism in this country today holds anybody back in a big way."

Georgetown professor Michael Eric Dyson agreed with Schultz's suggestion and accused Cain of denying racism for the sake of his "great machinery of self-promotion." Dyson said that Cain should especially recognize "post-intentional racism" - racism that people don't intend to have or to act upon.

Below, you can watch video of Schultz talking with Dyson.

What incredible BS!

I broke a ram once. When he came to my place he would attack any one who came into his paddock. So I just went in there and 'related' to him. Rams are not the brightest creatures on the planet.

Every time he tried to hit me, I'd sidestep and kick him in the butt. It's not that I kicked him hard,it's that I wasn't playing by his rules.

Then when he didn't try to hit me,I'd scratch him on the corner of the brisket -- the sweet spot for sheepies.

A week of that and when he trotted up to me it was to be scratched, not to fight.

He was "broke", and no contempt involved.

The bad guys are grasping at straws. This is a good sign.

I was born and raised in the deep South as were my parents, grandparents, greatgrandparents and on and on.

The word “break” has no connotations at all other than typical usage. Never heard it used in any way at all other than what people in all English speaking nations use it.

Who knew Kit Kat's were racist.

For those that don't get the joke, Kit Kat's jingle has the word break all over the place. I think it's considered one of the most memorable jingles of all time.

Lord, Lord. I'm sorry, but I laughed really hard when I read that.

"Everyone knows the proper non-racist way to say something like that is to say "cut his nuts off" (thanks Rev. Jackson for that language tip!)."

Yes, we could all take a lesson from the Right Reverend. (Or is it perhaps the "Left Reverend.")

Add Elton John and Kiki Dee to the list of racists. and Jimmy Ruffin. And Elvis. And Neil Sedaka.

Those guys that sang “bend me, shape me” are off the hook, but just barely.

Why do these leftist morons keep beating a dead horse. The race card has been played and it was a loser for them. I will tell you why. Cain is freaking their socialist democrat idealistic rear ends out. It would be the same as how an ambulance chasing personal injury attorney would feel after laying out his case to the jury his client will not be able to walk for life and turning around and watching her walk over and get a drink of water. Cain ain’t playing the victim game like the democrat blacks do and the SOCIALIST DEMOCRATS CAN’T HANDLE THAT

Ummmm....if "break" is racists then wouldn't calling something negative or less then good, "black" or "dark" also be racist? Because Obviously, saying something is "dark" would be to insinuate that someone or thing is "negroid" or bad, right?

."Accordingly, the Demint line demonstrated "how dark some of these racial discourses can be in presidential politics."

They are making things up.

This reminds me of “macaca” with George Allen. The Washington Post ran a series of articles explaining that macaca was a racist ethnic slur. They ran these articles to tell us the definition of a word, so that good liberals everywhere would know to be outraged. Otherwise, the macaca incident wouldn’t have amounted to anything, unless people were “educated” by the MSM to know that it was a slur.

So here, they are telling us the word “break” in this context is a racist term. Okay, we’ve played this scene before.
