So long and thanks for all the tweets! Former California Assemblyman and OC Weekly cover boy Chuck DeVore announced today he's not only dropping out of the race for the Orange County Board of Supervisors, but he's also dropping out of the state of California.

In a statement on his website--which he, of course, tweeted--the Republican DeVore declares he has accepted a position as Senior Visiting Scholar for Fiscal Policy at the Texas Public Policy Foundation.

I don’t blame you Chuck. Why stick around and fight for a state that disregards your message and is totally lost anyway. I guess the last American out of California should grab the flag on his way out.

California's loss and Texas's gain. There's a lot of that going around today.

I live in California and just about everyone I know who isn't very rich is thinking about leaving. I think Jerry Brown's election was the last straw for a lot of thinking people. I think up until then people were still holding out some hope things would improve.

But California is going to hell in a handcart at breakneck speed. I see nothing that can stop it now. Silicon Valley is the only thing keeping California from becoming Greece. But eventually that will fall apart. The strange thing is so many still don't believe it. When I mentioned this to a liberal I know he just shrugged it off. He said good riddance and we will be better off without those who don't like it here. When I mentioned that so many of those leaving were among our best people, it rolled off him like water off a duck's back.

The problem in California is Californians.

Chuck DeVore, a Perry supporter, was pro-Trans-Texas Corridor superhighway from Mexico into Texas, and like Perry, does not support a common sense border fence.

DeVore wrote in September:

Last week’s Republican Presidential debate confirmed one thing: Texas Governor Rick Perry’s main challenge in winning the Republican nomination will be his ability to explain his record on illegal immigration as governor.
____________________________________________________________

Guess what Mr. Devore, Perry lost is butt due to pandering to illegal aliens, and will never be elected President of the U.S.

8 years of Bush’s open borders was quite enough.

Maybe Mr. Perry will give Mr. Devore a job counting illegal aliens, when Mr. Perry is sent back to Texas for good.

Did he leave “GTT” on his door?

Many “Gone To Texas” types did that in the 1830s. History echoes, if not repeats.
