Rick Perry 's campaign team, undaunted by plunge in polls, readies phase two
Washington Post ^ | Oct 15, 2011 | Dan Balz

What he means is that in terms of money raised, organizations in place in early-voting states and policy proposals in the pipeline, everything is on track.

On Friday, Perry delivered his first major policy speech, outlining a series of executive actions that would accelerate exploration and production of domestic energy resources and create, he said, more than a million jobs. The next speech, scheduled for Oct. 25, will outline his plan for the economy, which has been a big hole in his message.

After the economic speech, Perry will tackle border security, foreign policy and government reform. The package of speeches, campaign officials hope, will do what the debates have not done, which is to flesh out Perry's profile as a conservative governor with the ideas and leadership qualities to be president.

In other words, the campaign that Perry's team hoped to run from the beginning will be able to start in earnest. He may have dug himself a deep hole with the four debates he's been in so far, but here in Austin, there is more defiant determination than pessimism in the concrete-walled command post.

LOL wow, 2%? I almost feel bad for him now...almost. It must feel pretty bad to go from the front runner to a 4th tier candidate in less than a month.

Polls aren’t worth much this early.

You posted this on other threads. The GOP establishment doesn’t want to see Perry receive the nomination.

lol

I was one of the biggest Perry supporters on this site.

But I always supported Perry out of practicality, I knew he had the connections, the money, the record, the poll numbers, and the looks among other things. But I underestimated the damage that could be inflicted upon him during the debates.

If by some miracle he was able to pull his pole numbers back up above Romney and Cain were to implode unexpectedly, I would have no problem at all supporting him again.

In the meantime I am supporting the strongest of the conservative candidates which is Cain at the moment.

Republicans were in charge of the Legislature when it passed. It is a TX issue and had nothing to do with federal responsibility of securing the borders.

We have been telling you, but your only interest is smearing and trashing Perry. By the way, have not seen any Perry supporters trashing Cain. Apparently, that is just in your mind. I doubt that Mr. Cain would be very proud of what you have been doing in his name to Governor Perry.

It would be nice to see just who, some of these posters support. The smears and trashing comments are beyond the pale.

Is it Dems, Paul, Cain, Bachmann, Cain or Paul? Either way, your comments are offensive.

I don’t care who was in charge of what. He seemed to love the power of the veto for many other bills. Why not this one?

Perry will rebound, as people will get to know the real Perry.

Let me get this straight. People didn't know Perry in August, and he ranked high in the polls.

Two months or so later, now that more people have seen and heard him in interviews and debates, he's been dropping in the polls.

Rick Perry's Presidential Strategy:
Step #1 Announce candidacy, do well in the polls
Step #2 Pick up more exposure nationally, start dropping in the polls
Step #3 ????
Step #4 Win

Can you tell me what Step #3 is? And make sure and forward it to Perry's campaign HQ because they'd probably like to know.
