Rick Perry 's campaign team, undaunted by plunge in polls, readies phase two
Washington Post ^ | Oct 15, 2011 | Dan Balz

What he means is that in terms of money raised, organizations in place in early-voting states and policy proposals in the pipeline, everything is on track.

On Friday, Perry delivered his first major policy speech, outlining a series of executive actions that would accelerate exploration and production of domestic energy resources and create, he said, more than a million jobs. The next speech, scheduled for Oct. 25, will outline his plan for the economy, which has been a big hole in his message.

After the economic speech, Perry will tackle border security, foreign policy and government reform. The package of speeches, campaign officials hope, will do what the debates have not done, which is to flesh out Perry's profile as a conservative governor with the ideas and leadership qualities to be president.

In other words, the campaign that Perry's team hoped to run from the beginning will be able to start in earnest. He may have dug himself a deep hole with the four debates he's been in so far, but here in Austin, there is more defiant determination than pessimism in the concrete-walled command post.

I have moved on.

Sorry to hear it. Think about what the debates have done so far. Cain has shot to the front of the list because he has no record to attack, but he also has no experience. Romney is right behind because he has turned 180 degrees from the positions he held as Gov. of MA. Gingrich is shooting up the charts because he is inspiring and no one seems to remember him trashing Paul Ryan, working with Hillary on healthcare, or agreeing with Pelosi on global warming.

I'm sticking with Perry because I can see his 10 years as Gov. of TX and his record is pretty conservative and he shares the values I have.

Perry will rebound, as people will get to know the real Perry.

I don't know about that. It's like dating. Once you've made up your mind that the person isn't the one you're looking for, there's not much they or you can do to change it.

Not saying it never happens or can't happen, just that he has his work cut out for him.

I agree, but face it he's polling 2% in New Hampshire...

2 freaking percent!

even Huntsman polls 6%!

I know Perry was never going to win New Hampshire, but 2%? That's a complete meltdown. And even though I agree with you that he would of been great, and was taken down unfairly, the damage is done, and he won't be able to get the cat bag into the bag because of the tuition issue, which I actually have no problem with but which obviously everyone from the other 49 states does.

I agree with those that have bailed. FR use to control what we are seeing taking place here. Now it appears to have become so partisan by the moderators it is lopsided and people just flat out are tired of the abuse. They realize the loons on the right are too far gone here...and prefer to go else where to make a difference.

You don't have a problem with the lackadaisical attitude Perry has taken in his run? I have never seen anything like it. I gave the guy every opportunity to get out there and hit it hard. Explain his positions and vision for Americas future while taking Mittens totally out. He is not doing that and it just doesn't look like he cares.

Just look at what he did after phoning in another debate performance this week. He heads of for beers at Beta Alpha Omega house, a notorious party Fraternity that has almost been kicked off campus a few times for their hijinks. The country is on the brink of disaster and this dude is off to party.

Don't get me wrong, I will gladly vote for him if he gets back into Mittens crushing territory, I am just irritated by his lack of effort and will take shots at him for that.

Ricky’s gonna save his *** with an energy plan?

Frankly, he’s a little late to the energy game-—better minds than his have already locked into this..... and have come up with great ideas.

What’s Rick been waiting for? Contributions from Texas Big Oil? His past actions demonstrate he does nothing unless it’s in his own self-interest.

Unleashing America’s vast energy reserves is an old story.
Not gonna save Rick’s disintegrating campaign.

Voters have seen and heard the guy more than they ever wanted to.

Does Perry know what “go away” means?

Nere are 10 good reasons. I’ve posted them in response to your question before, but you still keep asking, so I’ll keep posting.

1. Pro-gun.

2. Pro-life.

3. Pro death penalty.

4. Global warming skeptic.

5. Pro-military veteran.

6. Pro-drilling.

7. Pro-business, regulatory reform.

8. Has the guts to call Social Security what it is.

9. Strong on 10th ammendment, limited Federal government.

10. Has been a strong supporter of Israel for decades.

Please keep printing this list. I'm convinced a lot of FReepers have fallen into the trap of attacking Perry because it's the "in" thing to do. He has a solid conservative record.

What makes Cain so attractive is he has no record so there is nothing to attack, but the downside is he has no experience as you can tell from his changing his positions on various issues.

True and I do think the nomination is out of Perry’s reach. However, with the amount of money he has, he can sling a fair amount of mud. If his supporters are any indication, he’ll do his best to tear down Cain.

No one gave a crap about in-state tuition when it happened it 2001 in Texas, but now all of a sudden it’s a “I won’t vote for Perry because he’s an amnesty supporter.”

LOL! Guess you took a vacation from FR during Perry’s last primary contest.

You weren’t here back in 2001 so I don’t expect you to know what was going on here back then.

Perry has only attacked Romney from day one, and is actually the only one that has done so, with the exception of a few halfhearted mentions of Romneycare by the others.

I like Perry’s energy plan too, but I don’t think that alone is enough to turn things around. The tuition issue is killing him, and will continue to do so unless he does a total flip flop, which I just don’t see him doing.

Either Perry has a total come to Jesus moment on illegals or it’s over at this point. And a simple flip flop wont do, he will have to become a zealot when it comes to illegl immigration if he wants people to actually believe his sudden conversion, and I just dont see that happening.

Has extensive Experience governing and Leading.

Everyone seems to want to ignore the importance of experience. I'm sure part of this is the big push for Cain who doesn't have any. However, experience does two things for us. It shows how the candidate will behave when they are in power and how effective they are in getting things done.

Perry is the only candidate who has a conservative record while in power. I'm sticking with him.

That is just NOT TRUE...here is a thread with links to his after debate speech and Q&A with supporters.

Take time to review both videos..and see what Perry did after the debate. He may have gone to a party after that but he did take care of business.

The reason no one “gave a crap” is because most people weren’t aware of it. I didn’t know about it until he came on the national scene and I’m a political junkie. The thing is, people pay less attention to what happens in another state than they do about what’s going on in their own state. I’ve heard a fair amount of Texans (I’d say about 50/50) who oppose the legislation as those who think it’s fine or no big deal. His record will and SHOULD be scrutinized.

No votes have been cast. The tuition issue seems to be the big issue on conservative forums, but I don't think it's going to be the overriding issue when it comes to picking a nominee. I think the number one criteria is electability. The problem Cain has is he makes obama look experienced. Perry not polling well in the northeast is not the end. The northeast is blue. They think a guy like Christie is conservative.

We will see who our nominee is after SC. & FL. These two states better represent Pubs. NH & IA represent left of center views.

I want to see steady improvement in the debates from Perry, but he did better in the last debate and I think he will continue to improve. It's a marathon. Cain looks good now, but that's cause he has no record and is proposing things that he can't get passed.
