Ron Pauls opinions about cutting the budget are well-known, but on Monday, he got specific: The Texas congressman laid out a budget blueprint for deep and far-reaching cuts to federal spending, including the elimination of five Cabinet-level departments and the drawdown of American troops fighting overseas.
Theres even a symbolic readjustment of the presidents salary to put it in line with the average American salary.
Our debt is too big, our government is too big, and we have to recognize how serious the problem is, Paul said during an afternoon speech in Las Vegas ahead of Tuesdays GOP debate there.
The plan, Paul said, would cut $1 trillion in spending his first year in the White House and create a balanced federal budget by the third year of his presidency.
All the current candidates and many in Washington, they sort of talk around [the problem], Paul said. A lot of people will say, well cutting a trillion dollars in one year is radical. Well, I operate under the assumption that the radicals have been in charge for way too long.

This was the original article your post was taken from, with Ron Paul's response
were supposed to believe that Paul would take an ax to the defense budget. And dont forget, that ax would probably cut border security, as well.
Check out Ron Paul's actual plan. He takes out the militarism and leaves Defense. Nothing says that Border Security is going to take a hit as you suggest -- which isn't in "Defense" anyway. It's in Homeland Security -- should be plenty of money left over when he gets rid of TSA.
“I am absolutely convinced it is the only road to prosperity.”
I am absolutely convinced that it is the most important statement you have ever made in public office. HOORAY Ron Paul! Thank you, sir.
Well put.
Yes, Ron Payl said he didn’t know how all that money ended up in his district:
PAUL: I have no idea. But the most important thing is to have transparency.
If you don’t earmark something, then somebody else spends it and there’s no transparency. So, the principle of the earmark is very crucial. But we need more earmarks.
Over one day, the broken analog clock is right twice. Over all the years, he’s probably going to get to at least all of your fingers and toes count.
"Department of Defense Spending, 15% Ends all war funding."
So, not only can they do what Ron Payl has been saying they should do - walk right out of right out of Iraq, the way they came in." *Under Fire!**
But they can do it hungry and naked, too!
But Ron Payl, who doesn't even know how those earmarks show up in his district to pay for "recruiting a nurse practitioner," etc., but votes for them all the same, Ron Payl who wants *more earmarks,* as long as we don't call them "appropriations,"
Ron Payl would defund our soldiers on the field.
We saw how well that went in Viet Nam when the Dems defunded the war.
Because of foreign policy, I don’t support Paul but in domestic areas he can be on the target and these look like some good ideas.

Indeed, is this $1 trillion cut before Paul gets his last ear mark in?
you must be as math illiterate as your screen name sake. zero per year or one million per year makes no difference to the budget. My post was a joke.
We can sort the rest of this stuff out after the country has moved beyond it's current existential threat.
I think hes being a little hard on the presidents salary though. Id let him make twice that much.
For some reason, the thing that ground my gears the most was the revelation that Obama took one plane to his vacation, Michelle and kids took another .............. and then a THIRD jet was used to fly his DOG to their vacation spot.
GRRRRRRRRRR.
And how long has the old twit been in congress to propose it, let alone stand up to the jackasses in the senate to get it passed? He's in the perfect position to do it, so what is stopping him from pushing thru a bill? Oh yea, he'd rather talk about things he'll never do to make the gullible LIEberaltarians follow him into nothing-ness.
Can’t you just drop out of the race already. You are never going to win the nomination. Your Foreign Policy views are Extremist and your a kook to boot. Save your self the time and effort and go back to Texas.

But...but...but...this isn’t a Perry thread. :-)
I fully admit it. I walked into that one.
Check out Ron Payls requests for earmarks for 2009:
I have no problem whatever with him and the earmarks. If his district has to be overtaxed, then him bringing back some of what they pay is just good sense.
You are not going to convince me that Ron Paul is a sleazebag because I know that he isn't. If he were my Rep in Congress and they decided to hand out free money (some of which was mine), I'd expect him to get my share back to me, too. As far as I know, there is no "Ron Paul Airport" earmarked for his personal pleasure, so a mole hill isn't a mountain.
This is good. Cain can take some of these ideas and make them his own. He can then say, with 999 being revenue neutral but with, say, $500M in cuts (no the whole $1T Paul puts up) off the 2006 budget that we can apply surplus to paying down debt, and eventually that means 999 can drop to 777 and even 555 some day depending on growth.
Don’t sweat it... some folks don’t WANT to get it. They’re anything BUT small government, Constitutional conservatives. The ONLY difference between these weenies and the Marxist/obambi crowd are the specific areas of your life and mine they want to run for us. Dr. Paul does what he can to get his constituents’ own money back to them, but to some ID-10-Ts, that’s “pork.” They’re painfully wrong. PORK is a John Murtha, building temples and shrines to himself, getting special treatment for his big bucks campaign donors and enriching himself and his cronies in the process. Bringing in two or three times (or more) the amount that actually LEFT your district. Pure lardo!
Getting tax money back to your district in roughly the amount that was snatched out by the fedgov leviathan is only doing right by the folks who put their faith and trust in you, but to those who are such mentally incapacitated haters of a Constitutional conservative as Dr. Paul is, no calumny they can heap on him is too much!!!
