Perry's Jobs Plan: Drill, Baby, Drill
IBD Editorials ^ | October 17, 2011 | Editor

Election '12: A governor of an energy-rich state would use the "energy of the past" to create the jobs of the present rather than placing bets on solar panels and tilting at windmills.

During the GOP presidential debates, Gov. Rick Perry was criticized for taking all the credit for Texas' job-creation record since he was not responsible for the oil and gas in the ground that created many of those jobs.

True enough. But like Sarah Palin, the governor of another energy-rich state, he did foster a business-friendly climate as free from NIMBY regulations as possible, making the extraction of that energy a reality. He has fought the good fight against an Environmental Protection Agency that is at war with Texas — an EPA determined to shut down domestic fossil fuel production.

On Friday, Perry stood on a giant dock at a U.S. Steel plant in West Mifflin, Pa., to announce his plan to create an estimated 1.2 million jobs by freeing America's energy producers of burdensome federal regulations and reopening federal land and offshore water to energy exploration and production.

The Obama administration says it's already doing this, even after EPA regulations such as its cross-state pollution rule threatens to eviscerate energy production from coal. And after Obama's de facto moratorium on oil drilling in the Gulf of Mexico through a glacial permitting process. Plus, outright bans remain elsewhere, including ANWR.

“Why can’t he make his own slogan. he has to steal it from a true conservative Sarah Palin. Typical liberal. He can’t even come up with his own work.”

It was only the author of the IBD editorial trying to revive that useless slogan - not Perry. I think even Perry understood how uncool that chant sounded at the convention.

Wrong, most of the new wells have been drilled in other states. By the way, since you seem to think we have not been drilling, and to now start is something new. How many wells have been drilled in the USA in the past two years/?????

Because he is campaigning on it. Most of the candidates will do similar things. Half of them suggested getting rid of the EPA, or at least taking it down. Do we not give them credit because others would do it too?

Actually, this is his slogan:

Make what Americans buy. Buy what Americans make. And sell it to the world.

Its not his slogan, but it is typical of liberals to already “know” something before they read on it.

Where did I ever say we have not been drilling? Or is that something you gathered from your alternate Universe again?

I am on a drilling pad right now as I type. We just TD’d a monster, among a combined multiple well pad, with 5 more to go before we move to another pad.

So, to answer your question, I do have a very good idea of how many wells that have been drilled over the last two years. You can say that I have drilled at least 25 of them during that time.

You got that right. Perry could not be more liberal if he tried. I don’t know who is worse Obama, Romney or Perry....actually they are even for that title. They are in a close three way race.

He will, however, have difficulty in reaching out to the “heartless,” that is, those who vote in the primaries.

I just read the other day that “ The Largest Transfer of Wealth” has been the money we have sent to OPEC. With the prospects in the Bakken Oil Field and the Powder River Basin in Wyoming, not counting the oil Alberta wants to send us there is not one reason to import oil.

Lol. Talk to a REAL liberal. Ask him if he would vote for Rick Perry. They would laugh in your face.

Actually, P-F said 40% of the new jobs, not wells. Companies like Tenaris and Dril-Quip are doing a good amount of hiring down in Houston, from what I have seen, in the deepwater market. That equipment goes all over the country, so things Texans make go to other states for operations. But on a bigger point, P-F did not limit the jobs created to just oil patch, as you tried to twist it to. Texas has a very strong Accounting Center in Dallas, two financial centers in Dallas and San Antonio, and the deepwater drilling capital of the world in Houston. Part of the reason for this is the friendly business climate, like right to work status. There is a reason Toyota came here to build an assembly plant.

BTW, are you a member of a union? Your posts have a distinct union apologist tone to them.

La Raza Rick Perry trying to associate himself with Palin by using her slogan. Pathetic.

Perry's problem is that when voters close their eyes and listen, they feel they are hearing George W. Bush: the accent, the stammering and the “compassionate conservative” message.

Been there ... done that ... don't want to do it again.

Spot on analysis FRiend.

Service jobs and technological advancements in the Oil industry are being centered in Texas. The company I work for, was born and bred in the great state of Texas.

Jealousy, is a hard thing to live down for some, it seems.

Moron not reading the article and thus not knowing that Perry did not say that because it would go against his template. Pathetic

It's way too early to make that assumption. Wait another 3 or 4 months before you make any definitive claims of this type. Time is on Perry's side.

Thats fine, your candidate is good (if you are talking about Cain). But you just showed on this thread that you lack the ability to read or are just plain lazy, then tried to twist it around into something else. You ran with something that was not true because you thought you could get quick brownie points. But all you did was show your own stupidity.
