You do have the "right" to not breathe in cigarette smoke in a bar, by NOT going into it! I don't patronize rough bars, because I value not getting into a fight. I don't get gas at stations in ghetto neighborhoods, because I make the choice to not risk getting robbed. But that's MY choice.

I've never understood people who want private establishments to be forced to go smoke-free, when they would never go into them anyway. Seriously, how does it affect you if some place allows smoking? Are you terrified that somehow people might be enjoying themselves?

OK, a simple question. What if there was an intiative to ban gay bars? It wouldn't surprise me if that passed by a majority. Would you support it, because "majority rules"?

I would vote against such a law, not because I am pro-gay, or even that there is high-risk behavior going on, including the spread of deadly diseases that "the public" may end up paying for. But because it's none of my damn business. I'm not going to patronize such a place anyway. These are adults, making their own decisions even if I disagree with them.

The majority of Ohioans decided that they don’t want to be around cigarette smoke because it’s unhealthy. It’s really that simple. You are in the minority.

I’ll throw you a bone. I would have been fine with private, adult-only clubs being permitted to allow smoking. Private as in not open to the public.

Don’t like it? Create your own ballot initiative and put it up for a vote.

Rather, the bar owner says if the State wants such a law, then the State, not the bar, should enforce it.

It may be a winning strategy but it is one that misses the point in my opinion.

The state should not be limiting where legal activities can be practiced particularly not in private establishments.

If the state wishes to limit legal activities on state property that is one thing but private is private.

This is a freedom issue and should be struck down on a constitutional bases.

I’m in the clinical research field and my wife is a clinician. Not academia but private for profit and not profit institutions.

Anyone who believes secondhand smoke is not carcinogenic or unhealthy is a fool. There are a plethora of studies that prove this but I’m sure you’ll call them all junk so we are done here.

I never cease to be amazed at FReepers who are willfully ignorant. But hey, it keeps us in business and I have two sons I need to send to college so please keep smoking!

Who are you going to believe, some well funded study by anti-smoking activists who “happened” to find out that SHS is deadly, or your own eyes? I have no idea how old you are, but until about 15 years ago, ALL bars and restaurants allowed smoking. Did you subject yourself to the absolute horror of patronizing these places? Or did you stay home, curled in a fetal ball worrying about the dire consequences of gasp, being around smoke for a couple of hours? And dammit, I was PROMISED that I’d get lung cancer even though I don’t smoke. Where is it? Gimme! The studies “proved” that it’s inevitable.
