Abingdon resident Michael Solano describes his "spiritual awakening" after suffering a stroke while nearly choking to death at a crab cake eating contest in Timonium.
Abingdon resident Michael Solano says he no longer fears death after a harrowing experience that nearly cost him his life.
I can tell anybody who's willing to listen what its like to die, he said. Im very respectful of death. Im not trying to want it or have it bestowed upon me, but when it happens, Im not going to be afraid.

There’s the time the 2 yr old had the garage door close on him...he talked about “the birdies took care of the baby.” Nobody knew what he was talking about until he saw pictures of angels and called them “birdies.”

LOL!!! I had a strikingly similar experience:
While having my cardiac stents installed, I woke up enough to complain to the doctor that I was having angina in my left arm. He responded, "Yeah, I have my balloon blocking the same artery that caused your attack. I'll be done in a minute".
I remember replying, "OK..." -- and then the anaesthesiologist put me back under.

Later, back in my ICU room, the PA who was applying the pressure clamp to the femoral entry point started laughing. "Do you remember when you woke up in the OR? You answered the doc in a perfect Japanese accent, You said:"
"Ah so desu ka? Omoshiroi Desu! -- That makes perfect sense!"
"It cracked up the doc so much that he had to stop work until he was done laughing!"

It had been over 40 years since I lived in Japan... '-)
So, what happened?
A few years after I left the Philippines, I ended up near Camp Zama, outside Tokyo/Yokohama.
No doubt....good crab cakes have little grain involved...crumbs, flour, meal etc
What we used to call Deviled Crab is what some now think Crab Cake
i was in a dark place - emerginging into another, roomier area - still somewhat dark - Someone (i presume Christ) said “its not your time yet” and i was immediately moved back through the tunnel and then recall the first few seconds after birth .my next memory after that is at age 2 in the pram with my baby sis - being pushed by mom down the street (’64) - my next ones after that are winter ‘66 and summer ‘67 went on to ministry - now retired from that
Pretty cool. I guess the “Someone” spoke to you in English, which you didn’t know yet.
Apparently, our minds do strange things when they are nearly "out of it"... '-)
BTW, I spent late '61 thru late '64 at Yokota AFB -- NW of Tokyo, in the Tamagawa valley...
It sounds to me, Wardaddy, that you know how to make a good crab cake. If it doesn’t crumble when you put a fork into it... it has too much filler and/or has been over fried or broiled. If a crab cake isn’t delicate.. then it isn’t a crab cake. IMHO.
I was at Camp Fuchinobe, near Camp Zama and NAS Atsugi 1965-1969. It was an experience. We landed at Yokota the first time and then once I caught a MATS charter Panam to Tan Son Nhut.
thats what fascinates me about it - because I was largely a non Christian until about 40 ..
