Mitt Romney's Lying Problem
Reason ^

Posted on 10/19/2011 6:14:26 PM PDT by Def Conservative

Here's the problem with Romney's repeated assertion that he never suggested applying Romneycare nationwide: It just isn't true.

At a GOP debate in Des Moines, Iowa, on Aug. 5, 2007, here's what Mitt Romney had to say about his preferred federal approach to health care policy:

Look, it's critical to insure more people in this country. It doesn't make sense to have 45 million people without insurance. It's not good for them because they don't get good preventative care and disease management, just as these folks have spoken about. But it's not good for the rest of the citizens either, because if people aren't insured, they go to the emergency room for their care when they get very sick. That’s expensive. They don't have any insurance to cover it. [...]

We have to have our citizens insured, and we're not going to do that by tax exemptions, because the people that don’t have insurance aren’t paying taxes. What you have to do is what we did in Massachusetts. Is it perfect? No. But we say, let's rely on personal responsibility, help people buy their own private insurance, get our citizens insured, not with a government takeover, not with new taxes needed, but instead with a free-market based system that gets all of our citizens in the system. No more free rides. It works.

Emphasis mine.

There are two main problems with this yawning chasm between Mitt's flip and Romney's flop. The first is that a president who continues to insist, despite the mounds of contrary evidence, that Romneycare is working well, is a president who will be likely to continue or exacerbate bad health care policies at the federal level.

A talk show host reminded me of what somebody said of Romney's flipflops.

Paraphrasing, "You have Mitt the boy scout, and then you have Willard the sneaky pol."

Not just flip-flops in politics, Romney has told straight-faced lies about something as insignificant as his interview with Jan Mickelson of WHO radio in Des Moines, Iowa. So bald-faced I suspect pathology...

So go there, and leave us alone.

Mitt demonstrates all the traits of a pathological liar. He will swear he didn’t say something and will ACTUALLY believe it. It is impossible to deal with people like him because they have their own reality and it constantly changes.

I know that some consider it “inappropriate “ to touch this
but one of the reasons Mitt is creepy weird and seems to be disingenuous and deceitful is because he has to hide his TRUE beliefs as all LDS do. The truth when you get into what the “theology” actually involves is insane and bizarre. Mormons are always dissembling. The media have already done the work and will expose the church as soon as he becomes the nominee. Then it is game over .

I agree with you! Every Mormon I’ve ever met is creepy. The philosophy is weird and they have a cult like worship that’s scary. They’ve got those commercials going now I Am A Mormon...trying to make themselves look normal.

Mitt’s compulsion to try to use government to get health insurance for everyone is borne out of his acceptance of the doctrine of Collectivism. The adoption of collectivist thinking is what has gotten us into this huge mess, and also makes it nigh impossible to revert back to freedom and individual responsibility.

The whole housing finance melt down also resulted from this notion that everyone ought to have the right to a single family home, whether they could afford it on their own or not. And if they can’t, then we tap into the collective(i.e., taxes) to make it happen.

The problem with freedom now days, that people can’t seem to stomach, is that with freedom, some people are just going to do way better than others. There is no way around it. We are either going to have freedom, or we are not.

Liberal Republicans like Romney and the Bushes, by adopting the liberal premises, are powerless to take the actions that must occur to return us to a vital economy of freedom and reward for risk.

Because nobody has missed them that cares about them, and everyone who doesn’t care about those already knows he’s a flip-flopper on other issues they do care about.

The only folks left supporting him are the ‘electability first’ and the bought-and-paid-for-Romney crowd. Unfortunately, there are quite a few of both.

You know, if he wasn’t handsome and didn’t have a pleasing voice, he’d be nowhere in the polls.

**You know, if he wasn’t handsome and didn’t -have a pleasing voice, he’d be nowhere in the polls.**

Precisely. When he first showed up I was a ‘Mitten’. A warm hand garment that prevents useful movement of the fingers;)

Then it became clear after reading his bio and record:

Physically attractive, nice family, born into money & power, no military training or experience, never had to struggle. He has not lived a ‘normal’ life - but a privileged one. Like Obama only different.

Probably thinks normal people are an untidy mob who should be regulated, brainwashed and put into neat little boxes.
