Anne Frank, a Mormon?
New York Times ^ | Oct. 18, 2011 | Maureen Dowd

Posted on 10/20/2011 7:24:57 AM PDT by Colofornian

At an appearance at George Washington University...Bill Maher bounded into territory that the news media have been gingerly tiptoeing around.

Magic underwear. Baptizing dead people. Celestial marriages. Private planets. Racism. Polygamy.

“By any standard, Mormonism is more ridiculous than any other religion”...“It’s...founded on the idea of polygamy. They call it The Principle. That sounds like The Prime Directive in ‘Star Trek.’ ”

He said he expects the Romney crowd...to once more “gloss over the differences between Christians and Mormons.”

SNIP

Another famous nonbeliever, Christopher Hitchens, wrote in Slate...about “the weird and sinister belief system of the LDS”...

Aside from Joseph Smith, whom Hitchens calls “a fraud and conjurer well known to the authorities in upstate New York,” the writer also wonders about the Mormon practice of amassing archives of the dead...to “retrospectively ‘baptize’ everybody as a convert.”

Hitchens noted that they “got hold of a list of those put to death by the Nazis’ Final Solution” and “began making these massacred Jews into honorary LDS members as well.” He called it “a crass attempt at mass identity theft from the deceased.”

The Mormons even baptized Anne Frank.

It took Ernest Michel, then chairman of the American Gathering of Jewish Holocaust Survivors, three years to get Mormons to agree to stop proxy-baptizing Holocaust victims.

SNIP

Kent Jackson, the associate dean of religion at Brigham Young University, says that while Mormons are Christians, “Mormonism is not part of the Christian family tree.”

It probably won’t comfort skeptical evangelicals and Catholics to know that Mormons think that while other Christians merely “have a portion of the truth, what God revealed to Joseph Smith is the fullness of the truth,” as Jackson says...

You nailed it. I don’t like Romney because he’s a liberal, not because he’s a Mormon.

It’s ironic and sad that freepers are aligning themselves with the violently anti-Christian New York Slimes on this.

The liberals are going after the only serious GOP contender they could possibly beat or go along with their ideas.

What about all of the poor saps who died before Joey Smith was born, what about them?

I believe that Mormon understanding is that if these poor saps were fortunate enough to have been around between when Our Lord was visiting North America and before the teaching made there was lost and/or corrupted, they might have a shot. Otherwise, they'll have to hope that their name pops up in some old geneology records so they can have things taken care of post-humously by a pious Mormon.

American Indians who kept no such records will be out of luck for the time being. I do not know enough about Mormonism to know whether they are consigned to hell, annihilation, or some intermediate or temporary place. These kinds of questions come up for Catholics and Protestants as well (those who lived in times or places where they could not have possibly had access to the Gospel or sacramental Baptism), and approaches to the answer vary.

...exactly how is this different from the way they will treat any candidate the Republican Party puts up who is an avowed, unashamed, Christian? Haters are gonna hate and they will use any weapon they can find against those they target--including painting any Mormon, or Christian as "extremist," out of the mainstream, "dangerous," and/or wanting to establish a theocracy.

#1: For some on the attack, it'll be just a matter of degree. Maher lambasts all religions -- or at least Catholicism, Christianity, Mormonism, etc.

Even for him, “By any standard, Mormonism is more ridiculous than any other religion”...

#2: Look @ Prop 8. Evangelicals & Mormons & minorities & Roman Catholics especially teamed up to pass that in CA. Who did the libs go after for the most part? Minorities? (Nope; not at all). Evangelicals & Catholics? (Some) Mormons? (Yup)

That's the same "formula" that would carry over

I'm sorry, but these people are going to bash anyone they oppose with any number of illegitimate, twisted and distorted representations of what they support and believe.

Obviously, the MSM distorts & twists all it touches. The thing about Mormonism is that it's so bizarre it won't have to. (And nor does it in this article)

I don't like Romney because he's a flip flopping liberal.

I question a man that can fall for the mormon religion. Of course he was born into it....but he's not a stupid man either. So how could he be so duped???

As I've been saying for years....

The left wing media will pull out the long knives on Romney...They will not let up, and it won't be pretty.

Thousands of Christians will be exposed for the first time to what mormon's really believe.

If Romney had any sense...he'd drop out now.

It is a sin to weaken another man's faith

Got a verse to prove that or are you just going to keep repeating it with no proof. We can prove that Mormons are not Christians and will spend eternity in Hell unless they repent, but your stance is decidedly unScriptural. Frankly, it's Universalism.

Most people dont realize that those “great records” the LDS libraries in Salt Lake City and around the world have of their ancestors were derived from the lists of DEAD DUNKED Christians...

If you find your ancestors in the LDS files its because they were necro baptised into Mormonism AFTER they were dead for a year or maybe centuries..

Plus they may have been “married” to either their own wife, or several other women both known and unknown..

Then they would have recieved “endowments” making them of all things “temple worthy” and “sealed” to their children both real and imagined...making the children Mormons also..we have at present a Mormon president because Barry Dunham-Soetoro was “sealed” to his DEAD DUNKED mother Stanley Ann Dunham..(DD date June, 2008)

The ancestors are also often “sealed” to any living or dead descendants down to the day the “sealing” occurred...

Thus because I was already born on the day at least one of my CHRISTIAN ancestors was DEAD DUNKED and “sealed” to ALL his descendants to date, I am now a Mormon according to their doctrines..

and dont try to get them to change their records if they are incorrect and/or you are offended by their denial of your religious rights...

They will not change anything...even if you have the correct documents..I have tried...

also they have not hesitated to DEAD DUNK people who just happen to still be ALIVE...

Any member of the Mormon cult can submit a list of names of dead people and they will be DEAD DUNKED into Mormonism in proxy by shivering waterlogged Mormon teenagers...

Jesus has been DEAD DUNKED and “married” to Mary Magdalaine and others...

Hitler along with many of his Jewish victims...Anne Frank died because she was a Jew but she is now a Mormon (also a REAL Jew now because besides claiming they are the REAL Christians, Mormons claim they are the REAL Jews while the Jews are just “gentiles” like the Christians.... This was significant when Glenn Beck stood in Jerusalem and announced he was a “jew” meaning he was a REAL Jew and the Jews were not)

The Founding fathers are said to have haunted one of the Mormon so called “prophets” until he agreed to DEAD DUNK them...

apparantly our dead CHRISTIAN ancestors line up and beg to be members of Mormonism, a religion foreign to their CHRISTIAN beliefs that they had died with...

My Huguenot ancestors for instance would not have bowed down to the god of Mormonism during their life times...

and the Founding Fathers, who are now the recepients of DEAD DUNKING into Mormonism, were the very ones who wrote and agreed and signed the Constitution which contained the Bill of rights and the 1st Amendment giving Americans the right to FREEDOM OF WORSHIP...and yet they had the religion of Mormonism FORCED upon them...

This is an ongoing travesty, and ghoulish..in the least...

So much for the Mormon “articles of faith” one of which claims they allow others to believe and worship as they please...

Another Mormon lie...

Oooops! There it is.

Christians! To the back of the bus.

Mormons are more worthy than all others!

You have not received the fullness of God’s word. For some reason he hid it from you until it was revealed in Joseph Smith.

Christ did not die for your sins. He died for the sins of those who discovered the fullness of the God’s word after 1830.

All those who came before and all those who do not believe as we do are suckers who have been duped.

Mormons and Christians are not of the same tree.

Wow.

Guess there will be no reconciling their exclusivity.

Maybe they should have a holiday book like Neiman Marcus each year?

It is a sin to weaken another man's faith

So Jesus "sinned" when he weakened the Pharisees' "faith" in legalism? Really? Is that what you're generically accusing Him of?

Or Christian missionaries addressing misplaced faith in animist spirits; in superstitions; in shamans; in witchdoctors; in voodoo priests...is a "sin?"

Tell us, Laotzu, how long have you have this hatred or expressed opposition to Christian missionaries?

Glenn Beck, on his radio show today, came out really strong against Maureen Dowd and this specific hit piece. He talked about his Mormon faith for some time, and said how disgusted he is with Maurine and tyne NYT putting this garbage out.

Did Glenn use the term "garbage"? One would hardly expect Glenn NOT to defend his faith...lots of his followers are likely mormon.

I'd like to be a fly on the wall to see Mitt lose his cool over this the way some mormon defenders are doing on this thread.

It’s ironic and sad that freepers are aligning themselves with the violently anti-Christian New York Slimes on this.

Yes, the N.Y.T. and every other liberal organization is anti Christian and now we know that the N.Y.T. is also anti Mormonism. Nobody is aligning themselves with the N.Y.T. They provided some truthful information to the general public that the general public might not have otherwise known. Truth is truth, no matter where it comes from.

If you want to refute any of the factual items about Mormonism, stated in the article, go ahead and do so.

Mormonism is a lie, based on a false prophet liar, who got his lies from the father of all lies. Will you join me and others in praying that Mormons will be enlightened and accept the Biblical Jesus as their Lord and Savior?

I don’t have a problem with Romney being a mormon.

Me, neither, as long as he isn't POTUS.His allegiance is elsewhere.
