Dr. George Miley Replicates Patterson, Names Rossi
Ecat site - Long-time cold fusion researcher Dr. George Miley, affiliate professor at the University of Illinois, has recently released a report documenting his successful replication of the work of cold fusion pioneer James Patterson. Dr. Miley feels that the work of Mr. Patterson and Andrea Rossi have many similarities and has offered a theory that is felt to cover both. Dr. Miley recently spoke at the World Green Energy Synopsium in Philadelphia, PA from October 19-21, 2011. A Microsoft Power Point presentation was released on October 3 documenting his work and experimental results. I have included a slide show of this presentation below. Please note that such presentations usually serve as a guide to an accompanying lecture, of which I do not have access to at the present time. I will post it if and when it becomes available
Here is the link to the 56 page powerpoint presentation - Nuclear Battery Using D-Clusters in Nano-materials --- plus some comments about prior H2-Ni power cell studies
Excess heats of 1-2 kW were consistently produced with the Patterson cells. How? Light water and Ni should not produce a reaction!! The next slides explain my search for an answer. I propose that similar studies should be done for rossis cell.
Rational for Combined SIMS-NAA
Analysis for a large number of isotopes needed
.
NAA is time consuming and was limited to nine elements with appropriate cross sections where reference standards were available
.
SIMS, with ultra low detection limits, could detect all isotopes rapidly, but it provides relative isotope concentrations and abundance ratios are more precisely than it does absolute concentrations
.
Thus the SIMS concentration values were normalized to the more accurate NAA results.
There is some discussion that he not getting the kilowatts that Patterson was claiming I hear from attendees that Miley is getting about 300 watts of thermal power without inputting any energy.
George Miley has worked on all kinds of nuclear fusion and headed the nuclear fusion department at the University of Illinois. He is a far more respectable source and researcher than Rossi.
Man, get a room.
spfl
10 Q much.
I suspected that the adjective would have an ending in actual Latin, but wasn’t sure.
Why don’t you just stop responding to him? It’s really frustrating to see thread after thread filled with this childish banter.
No wonder Kevmo wouldn't provide a summary of Miley's presentation.
No, "seagulling" is a response to a small group of posters whose purpose is to shut down discussion or a) Andrea Rossi, or b) "cold fusion" by spamming threads on the subject with dozens of one-line posts with a thousand variations of "its a scam", "Rossi is a crook", and similar sentiments with minimal technical content.
"Please let this seagulling term die a death befitting it and that is by a round of well deserved ridicule. Every time I read it besides thinking how incredibly lame and unimaginative, I also think of an incredibly lame book, "Jonathan Livingston Seagull". Truly a horrible new age piece of trash; much like the current term.
Convince the seagulls to stop dropping crap on these threads, and it'll die by itself.
Man, get a brain.
Levi and Focardi aren't "actual physics professors"?? Essen and Kullander aren't "actual physics professors"??
What exactly is your definition of "actual physics professor" that makes a differentiation between those four "actual physics professors", and Dr. Miley???
Because it doesn't do any good. And yes, it "is" frustrating to see thread after thread "shouted down" by a very small group of the people who post the same idiocy multiple times on multiple threads. But they're "on a crusade" don't y'know......to shut down discussion on FR, because "Rossi is a crook", and "cold fusion is a fraud" and thus not worthy to be discussed in any other way than ridicule.
What exactly is your definition of "actual physics professor" that makes a differentiation between those four "actual physics professors", and Dr. Miley???
Only Dr. Miley was mentioned in this article; therefore, I only researched his credentials.
Who are those others you mentioned? Are they some of the people listed as peer reviewers for Rossi's Journal of Nuclear Physics?
It occurs to me that a fair number of people listed as validation of Rossi's credibility either cannot be verified as actually existing, or there is no evidence of their association with Rossi. I count Dr. Miley as an actual physics professor because he really can be found on the official University of Illinois website, where he is listed as faculty.
“Seagulling” is the term they use any time someone points out that Rossi has a highly questionable background, and is trying to claim to have circumvented the laws of physics.
If you ask for scientific proof of Rossi’s claims, they then try to put the onus on you to prove that Rossi’s claims are not scientific, instead of acknowledging that someone claiming to have overturned current knowledge about the laws of physics has an absolute requirement to supply evidence of such. But insisting on scientific evidence is enough for them to brand you as a seagull, as well.
It's just a cowardly way of avoiding posting facts or degrees or past frauds/scams or imprisonment.
OR, having the nerve, the nerve mind you of asking when an independent group will evaluate it and say yay or most likely nay.
Does anyone know how its approximately 100 degrees C output is going to generate energy? Rossi claims he's going to turn a steam turbine but I'm having a little problem with that as the output of the 1MW plant appears to be PVC pipe you could buy from Lowes. My understanding of steam power generation via turbine is that they use superheated dry steam at around 400 degrees C at a high pressure. I'm not seeing that from a PVC pipe. Someone mentioned that the plan is to use a heat exchanger which makes sense but if the input to the heat exchanger is 100C at normal atmospheric pressure, how is it going to create 400C and high pressure in the secondary circuit? Below is the output pipe of his 1MW reactor.
Here's a quote from Rossi:
But, so far, we will be able to respect the scheduled term of delivery for the 1 MW plant, and to anticipate our ability to put in the market an E-Cat for everybody. I repeat that we will be able to produce heat immediately, while for the electric power we should be ready in one year. By the way: the E-Cats for the public will produce hot water for heating, not steam.
He's also claimed he's heating either an office complex or his labs (for over a year mind you) depending on which version of the story you read. That right there would be proof enough yet nothing, could it be Satan Fraud?
Wow, are you that lazy?
The only evidence I’ve seen of your understanding of LENR is you know how to copy and paste from blogs and mailing lists.
***Then why do you bother seagulling on these threads? It would become readily apparent to anyone interested that I have no understanding of LENR. There is no need for what you do here.
In order to be more than a glorified hand warmer, this kitten is going to have to be able to put out continuous energy when fed with whatever nuclear fuel is supposedly consumed.
***It does.

Andrea Rossis cold fusion reactor (E-Cat) outputs 4 times the energy (electricity) that enters it. [REPORT]
Posted on October 17, 2011 by Chris F. Masse
E-cat total heat output = 33.76 kWH = 121.5 MJ
Total electrical input energy = 8.97 kWH = 32.3 MJ
This doesn’t at all seem to be the same thing. It’s a one-time hand warmer that uses up its nuclear/chemical fuel and then becomes as energy efficient as a common toaster. Otherwise it could be fed from a portion of its output and voila, we have a low energy nuclear reactor that keeps up for weeks, months, whatever.
By following links back to the original PowerPoint presentation, I see that Dr. Miley is not providing any kind of validation of Rossis device, but is suggesting ways it can be tested.
***Yup, you’re right. I was trying to prod Moonman into actually reading the files. Looks like he didn’t bother, even after his capability was questioned.
I really hope that Rossi doesnt use the fact that he was mentioned by an actual physics professor as an endorsement of his work.
***Yeah, all those other physics guys that have been talking about Rossi’s results don’t count, somehow.
No, I post to All; y’all; et al
and I don’t threadjack like you do.
Strictly speaking, it wasn’t a complaint as much as an observation. We wouldn’t want you to go blind now, would we? ;-)
so, what is your background and education?
***posted on previous threads
Every time I read it besides thinking how incredibly lame and unimaginative, I also think of an incredibly lame book, “Jonathan Livingston Seagull”. Truly a horrible new age piece of trash; much like the current term.
***Good. Then you dislike seagulls as much as I do. I haven’t even started in on calling these guys Jonathan Livingston — you figured out my next step.
You know it would be much more truthful to say that you can’t because you don’t know.
***No, it was because I did not want to, as I posted. The guy was too lazy to read through it enough to find something to seagull over. Truly disgusting behavior.
I’ve posted my background on LENR threads before. You go fetch. Moonboy, whom you are defending here, has not posted his background has been caught flat footed several times, plus he posts tons of classic fallacies.
