I had an applicant that I placed 4 ones and four quarters in front of, then produced a fiver, and asked her to make change for a $2.50 purchase. She starteed to cry, as she did not know how.

When was the last time you saw a cashier (other than your own employees) count change back to a customer?

Mos cashiers hand back the change in a stack that makes counting and verification very difficult. They stack the coins on top of the bills.

They annoy me ...

One of my favorites. We had an opening for a service tech (electronics). Got a decent resume through an agency. Called the guy in for an interview. Didn’t show on time. A while later someone noticed a guy sound asleep in his car in the parking lot. It was him. Badly hung over. He didn’t get in the door.

I believe it. Nowadays, grocery store cashiers have to look at the register to see how much they owe you, for even the simplest, easiest subtractions. It's quite discouraging.

These days, the best cash registers show a picture of the change due when you ring in the amount.

When I earned my initial CFI (certificated flight instructor certificate) from the FAA, the fail rate was about 30% on the first try. It has recently been approaching a 70% fail rate on the first try. More than coincidence? Yes, it is.

When I passed my master technician in TV servicing license, the fail rate on the first try was about 20%. It now approaches 50%. More than coincidence? Yes, it is.

When many colleges created the BDIC (bachelor's degree with individual concentration) in the 70s, they created college groupies that spent four years learning almost nothing and were severly limited in job prospects.

The Liberals have created a society wherein at least of third of adults are unemployable. Of course, this is exactly what you want when you force socialism down peoples' throats. It will be decades after we fire Obama before this can be turned-around.

A few years ago I bought an item at a discount store. The young cashier did not have one of the smart registers that tells one the change to be given. First she gave me too little change and I asked her to calculate it again. Her face clouded up and her lip started quivering. She next gave me too much change but with a look of humiliation and silent pleading that this was right. I started to correct her again but her embarrassment was so painful I simply took the change, smiled, thanked her, and left. I have wondered since about thos young woman who couldn’t make change from a five.
