There is a mechanism for making this change. It's called a Constitutional Amendment.

Liberals should get busy working on this right away. It will keep them busy for a half century.

People think they want it because they are stupid.

Eventually, they'll come to understand that it would mean the 10 or so largest cities in the US will pick the president.

Good luck getting ratification in two thirds of the states when that truth becomes known.

combine this fact with the democrats wanting to allow illegals to vote and you can clearly see what the 2012 obama re-election plan is:

http://www.nationalpopularvote.com/

The National Popular Vote bill would guarantee the Presidency to the candidate who receives the most popular votes in the entire United States. The National Popular Vote law has been enacted by states possessing 132 electoral votes — 49% of the 270 electoral votes needed to activate it.

A simple rule for the good: If the UPI, NYT, LAT, etc are pressing for it...especially for a poll they’e conducted....it is NOT a good thing.

This article is a prime example of the failure of our joke of an education system (populated by teaching union members whose only distingishing characteristic is existing at the bottom of the SAT barrel).

There is a reason for the electoral college. Too bad the MSM never learned it.

Well, then “most” would be very unhappy when less than 10 states dictate national policy to all.

Most in U.S. would scrap Electoral College

Most in U.S. are complete idiots. Did they not learn anything from Florida 2000? Without the electoral college, we would have recounts in every Dem city in the US every single election. No Republican would ever win the Presidency again. Every four years, the recounts in Chicago and Philadelphia would each generate an additional 10 million votes for the Democrat candidate, just to be sure.

The only opinions that should count are from people not employed by the government and those not on welfare, food stamps, government programs for free housing, free telephones, free meals, free medical care to illegals, able bodied moochers, brood sows, etc.

Notably, this was written by “Staff”. Either this means that they are unable to interpret the actual poll information and had to make it up or they knew the methods were so bad that they couldn’t find anyone who wanted their name attached to the article.

Most in the U.S. don’t have a clue as to the purpose of the Electoral College. They probably think its a private school.

Sixty-two percent of Americans prefer replacing the Electoral College

May I please see who make-up of this poll?? I mean the percentage of Conservatives, moderates and marxists (er I meant LIBERALS) of the Rebublicans, Democrats and independents.

Connecticut had a hand in the electorial college.

Most in U.S. would scrap Electoral College

That's why we have it: because in a free society, what "most" want should not trump or silence the minority.

When we as a nation spend more time teaching students about "self-esteem", diversity and feelings over facts rather than civics, history or the structure of our gubment, this is the result.

Over time I have come to believe that is is intentional. I hate progressives with a burning passion.

Most Americans say they would amend the Constitution to swap the Electoral College with a popular-vote system to elect the president

Which is precisely why we need to keep it.

Sixty-two percent of Americans prefer replacing the Electoral College

It is sad to learn that 62% of Americans are ignorant of the benefits the founders provided us with the Electoral College. Fortunately, for the nation a constitutional amendment is required to eliminate the Electoral College vote.

The USA Today newspaper provided an interesting perspective on the Electoral College vote for the 2000 and 2004 presidential election

This link allows you to toggle between the 2000 and the 2004 election. The areas of the nation where the popular vote could determine the outcome of a presidential election are obvious. Candidates would only no need to campaign in these locations.
