It would be nice to have a candidate with a sunny demeanor who gets the urgency and understands the way fiscal insolvency, foreign affairs and social policy interact. But maybe from a talent pool of 200 million or so that’s an unreasonable expectation.

Deserves repeating. Bigger.

More and more, I believe that Obama will get a second term.

The CainBots aren't gonna like this.

Mark Steyn is right, however.

Yes, Herman can sing you a song and make you a pizza. But its not his record we judge him on. Since he has no governing or legislative experience whatsoever. We are left with dissecting his public rhetoric, both past and present. When his rhetoric falls short, Cain falls short.

Cain doesn’t have to know everything about everything...he just needs to have core beliefs and be willing to surround himself with the most competent hard working ethical people he can find. That is the recipe for success.

Even Cain's so-called "falling short" is simply a matter of rhetoric, not a failing of substance.

Unlike Perry, who is an abysmal slimebag.

Nice try, troll.

Love Steyn.

But now all his former friends on Free Republic will be advancing to their keyboards to explain that he is a know-nothing piece of scum.

Wait for it .....

Cain has governed - he was a successful CEO - not to mention a few other things on the way up. WTF had Obama ever done except run his mouth?

All Cain needs is a good team - and I hope Gingrich is a big part of it - who would know more than Newt about getting things done with Congress?

Somebody should ask Herman what kind of person he’d choose as Sec State. If he names someone like Bolton it would take a lot of pressure on the foreign policy front.

"Cain doesn’t have to know everything about everything...he just needs to have core beliefs and be willing to surround himself with the most competent hard working ethical people he can find. That is the recipe for success."

Maybe time to hire some policy people & have some discussions. He's a fast learner - so now is the time to concentrate on things like this.

His life story can easily be checked - but he's doing a lot of media interviews & needs to bone up so that he can be at ease with some of the questions they throw at him.

No. Rick Perry is a piece of scum. Mark Steyn is simply letting perfect be the enemy of the good.

I apologize for multiple posts. The system is crawling for me & sending posts is freezing up. I rebooted - emptyied my chaches, etc. Not sure why it’s doing that.

It's fun to say ‘I told you so.’

And here you are. Apparently unwilling to try to diss the unimpeachable Steyn, you fall back on your repetitive and false Perry bashing.

Some of you need a certificate from your doctor because, if you are as crazy as you act on these threads, I'll try to be more tolerant.

I hate it when that happens!

Usually it’s my wi-fi screwing me up.

This is the pattern we’ve all become use to. Post honest criticism about TheGodfather and the rapid response team of reactionary CainBots starts flying onto threads with spitballs blazing.

I know you already know this, but love is blind.

Being a successful CEO bears only a slight resemblance to governing a nation.

It’s nice to have business experience but it’s become more and more obvious that Cain is not ready to be president.

His meager knowledge of foreign policy and his lack of any thought out positions are dangerous in our world today.

I wouldn’t say he’s an amiable dunce. He’s amiable and he’s smart but he’s not presidential material.

It scares me to think of him at the helm.

Some of you people just like him way too much and you won’t hear a word about it, even from a friendly conservative like Steyn.

Better get a little marriage counseling before you say the vows. Don’t be afraid to do it. If he passes scrutiny, then fine. But if you people can’t stand any scrutiny of the man, you are in denial.
