DANDRIDGE, Tenn. Just months after obtaining more than $400,000 in federal stimulus funds, TR Auto Truck Plaza off Interstate 40 sits idle.
The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) handed out the $424,000 Environmental Protection Agency stimulus grant for electrical hookups so that truckers wouldn't have to burn diesel fuel while resting. Both the state and EPA were apparently unaware that owner Rick Lewis had a history of legal and financial problems and had filed for bankruptcy.
What was originally lauded as Tennessee's first electrified truck terminal is now boarded up.
"It is Solyndra in miniature," said Rep. Phil Gingrey, R-Ga.,

Even before his latest bankruptcy filing, Lewis had a history of financial troubles. He filed for bankruptcy in 2003, a year after a conviction on 31 counts of theft. And Lewis currently faces indictments for allegedly writing worthless checks, according to court records.

Change is coming and we are all going to hate it.

Here is what is even more outrageous:
Many localities have enacted regulations on idling trucks. As a result, the industry has moved toward “Clean-Idle” technology that uses chemical generators to create the power required for a truck that would otherwise be idling.
This has been in place on nearly all Class 8 trucks since 2005.
THERE WAS NO NEED FOR THIS ELECTRIFIED TERMINAL!!!!!!
This demonstrates, once again, that gov’t should not be loaning money or trying to get involved in new technologies.
Do they even research these companies?
Bfl.
Of course they do. They know down to the penny exactly how much money these companies have given to democrats. How else do you think they are selected to receive part of obama's stash?
Note to the idiots in govenernment - would it be TOO FREAKING HARD to do a simple credit check or background check before throwing away $400,000 of our tax money? Blithering idiots, every last one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Has anyone found a list of now bankrupt ‘green’ companies, who got Porkulus money?
