We Haven't Lost Our Ambition and Imagination, Mr. President. You've Stifled It!

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: At a campaign fundraiser in San Francisco yesterday afternoon here is Obama, in his view, telling his supporters what's wrong with America.

OBAMA: We've lost our ambition, our -- our imagination, and -- and -- our willingness to do the things that built the Golden Gate Bridge and Hoover Dam and unleashed all the potential in this country.

RUSH: We haven't lost our ambition, and we haven't lost our imagination. You, sir, have stifled it. You and your party have stifled it. The people in this country have their imagination. The people of this country still have their dreams and their willingness to do things. You stand in the way. The federal government stands in the way. Mountainous regulations. We did build the Golden Gate Bridge, the Bay Bridge, the Hoover Dam, and the Empire State Building in ten years -- and we did it in the middle of the Great Depression. You couldn't do it today. Regardless the ambition, imagination, willingness, or desire, you couldn't do it in ten years today. Look at Ground Zero in Manhattan. You couldn't do it. I mean, physically it could be done, but it couldn't be legally done.

The regulations, the obstacles, the environmental impact lawsuits, environmental destruction, all of that. No, couldn't be done. Progress, growth, ambition are stifled by the American left. I'm reading Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson, the biography, and he developed a pretty good relationship with Rupert Murdoch because they were putting together a joint publication for the iPad called The Daily. In getting to know each other, Jobs invited Murdoch to his house for dinner a couple times and joked to Isakson that he had to hide the knives in the kitchen 'cause his wife was such a liberal and hated Murdoch. Jobs tells Isakson in the biography that he told Murdoch (summarized), "You're blowing it with Fox News. The axis is not liberal-versus-conservative today.

"The axis is constructive versus destructive, and you're missing it, Rupe. You're missing it. Fox News, you're blowing it. That's gonna be your legacy and you're gonna hate it." One of the things that as struck me about Jobs in the Isakson biography is how wrong Jobs was about so much, starting early on in his career. Not criticism. He was just wrong about a tremendous number of things, in areas of his expertise and outside his areas of expertise. But the notion that the axis is no longer liberal versus conservative and constructive versus destructive, what's the difference? Liberalism is destructive. We're witnessing it. Liberalism presides over decline. Liberalism causes decline. Liberalism causes stagnation. Liberalism stifles ambition, dreams, willingness, growth. Conservatism is constructiveness! There's no doubt about it.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Grab audio sound bite five again. This is Obama late yesterday in San Francisco talking about America.

OBAMA: We've lost our ambition, our -- our imagination, and -- and -- our willingness to do the things that built the Golden Gate Bridge and Hoover Dam and unleashed all the potential in this country.

RUSH: Obamaville. Everywhere in America is Obamaville, but this reminded me, we went back to the archives July 15th, 1979, Jimmy Carter at the White House.

CARTER: It is a crisis of confidence. It is a crisis that strikes at the very heart and soul and spirit of our national will. We can see this crisis in the growing doubt about the meaning of our own lives, and in the loss of a unity of purpose for our nation.

RUSH: Isn't it amazing what happens when Democrats run the show? So here's Obama now. I said this was gonna be Jimmy Carter's second term and it's just playing out exactly like that. Can you imagine, 1979, this was pretty close to the same period of time in the campaign schedule as we are now. That is an amazing, crisis, he's the president saying this. It was a self-indictment. Crisis of confidence. Crisis that strikes the very heart and soul. We see this crisis in a growing doubt about the meaning of our own lives. (laughing) What an indictment! The meaning of our own lives, and in the loss of a unity of purpose of our nation. Wonder why that happened? And I think that there's a certain element of that sentiment that exists in a lot of people now.

It really is. I can't tell you the number of people I run into who have very fortunately escaped some of the ravages of this downturn economy, but they're still not happy. And I've talked about it with them, and they're not happy because of the state of the country at large. They would be perfectly able to say, "Well, you know, the rest of country is over there doing this with unemployment, I'm okay," and they'd be running around yukking it up and having fun, and they're not. It's just amazing. There is a malaise that is out there, and it's permeated all groups, all socioeconomic groups because at the heart of it every American understands this is just not how it happens in this country. This is not what this country is all about. This is not how we go about fixing our problems.

There is a general unease and a lack of confidence about where we're headed and it's directly traceable to the White House. Everybody looks to the White House for answers, for inspiration, for leadership. We're not getting any of that. There's no optimism. And whenever Obama tries, like talking to the kids in the Denver today saying, (imitating Obama) "When I wake up, I look out and I look at people like you, and I'm comforted, America's best days are ahead." Nobody believes him. When Ronald Reagan said it, everybody believed it. But when Obama says it nobody believes it because there's no commensurate policy. There's no action that accompanies the sentiment. It's getting worse each and every day.

Free market capitalist America is what Obama wants to impede and correct. It’s like having a horse more powerful than your purposes call for.

In animal training it’s called hobbling. You tether a horse’s legs to limit locomotion. He doesn’t like it but eventually he’s desensitized and he adjusts to restraints on his natural powers and actions.

Obama is a hobbler. His agenda is basically to hobble the vast, wonderful American economic system in order to make it suit him. Weaken it, tie it up in regulations, break its spirit.

When you (the USA) picks up a hitchhiker along the road who you don’t know from a hill of beans and give him a ride to the executive mansion of the USA, you’ve got to be ready for the insane asylum.

What we have in that White Hut today, along with 850 other rats, is a usurper! A person who is a liar, a pretender and an utterly worthless human being. It is what grade B movies are made of and is a nightmare from which we may never recover!

We’ve got to do something as I don’t believe this republic can limp along until this rat is replaced.

Idunno about GGB but Hoover was a make-work project to end them all, and a huge boon to the “Six Companies” that wound up contracting to build it. I don’t the Occupy part of Obama’s Army would appreciate that, what with Bechtel being the evil empire and all.

I’ve got three kids in college (two undergrad, one grad). About 1/4 of their friends are going into the “environmental” arena, often “environmental law” or “environmental science.” Their sole mission in life will be to obstruct and stop progress. I feign excitement for their chosen profession when I meet them, but I am silently dismayed at the huge crop of obstructionists the nation is turning out. And disappointed that their (no doubt ultra liberal) parents have shepherded them into these career paths.

We used to produce prodigious numbers of scientists, engineers and other technical disciplines oriented toward progress, creation and building. Now we are turning out prodigious numbers of obstructionists. What a sad state of affairs.

People who know history see what’s before us. Like Kaptur, D-OH said ‘we need state controlled capitalism’. (Like that’s a real working option).
We don’t do central planning. Many of my fellow small businessmen have either gone ‘Galt’ or are on slow roll, like myself. I’m saving all my great innovations and marketing ideas until after the collapse of ‘progressives’.

Mr. Obama:

To your comments, let me say this.

When our Secret Service escorts you out of OUR White House on 20 January, 2013, you will see first hand just how horribly WRONG you are in your low opinion of the American People.

For your entire term (thus far) you have done everything that you possibly can to dampen the American Spirit. You have demonstrated your disregard for our laws, our traditions and our national identity.

You will see a renewed and invigorated American Spirit when your no longer in a position to act as a wet blanket to the American Exceptionalism that is greater than even your own sense of self importance.

Millions of us stand ready to clean up the mess that you and your administration has made of everything that you have touched.

When you finally leave OUR White House for the last time, it will be a day worthy of some serious celebration. And celebrate, we shall!

Don’t go away mad, Mr. Obama. Just go away.

Yes, I agree. It's very upsetting to see this. I have a small private liberal arts college in my town that is still, fortunately, turning out people who actually want to do things but huge numbers of schools, especially state schools, are turning out nothing but bureaucrats who want to preside over our demise.

“We used to produce prodigious numbers of scientists, engineers and other technical disciplines oriented toward progress, creation and building. Now we are turning out prodigious numbers of obstructionists. What a sad state of affairs.”

The engineers and scientists that we have left will be the ones logical enough to leave here util we regain our senses. Which will mean a huge drop in our ability to invent and innovate and continue (with what is left) to build our nation. If obstructionists continue to get degrees, then the ones who are sick of it will leave and another country will benefit from the brilliant minds that are goign to begin arrving seeking a new life.

Like Kaptur, D-OH said ‘we need state controlled capitalism’.

Someone perhaps should inform Marcy Kaptur there is a word for "state controlled capitalism". It's called fascism.

As Rush noted, when liberal presidents inevitably make a mess of everything they attempt to 'fix', as Jimmy Carter did 30+ years ago, they never, ever blame themselves or their policies built on a collectivist ideology. No, they blame the American people, in effect, blaming the victims of their liberal insanity. Thus it ever was.

That Obama has a near-40% job approval poll number is astounding. He is positively toxic to our economy and all the attempts at deflecting the blame to 'Wall Street' won't fly when it comes time to vote because 'Wall Street' and 'greedy rich guys' won't be on the ballot. This is why the left strives to yoke Republicans with 'the rich' and slam every Republican tax reform plan, no matter who proposes it, as a huge break for 'the rich' and a sneaky way to screw the middle class, as if Republican candidates thought that was a clever campaign strategy.

As Rush stated on his (Wednesday) show, that the Republican presidential contenders are all proposing real tax reform scares the pants off the left and the GOP establishment who like the current system just fine. This is why the 'establishment' candidates, mainly Romney, cannot win the 2012 Republican presidential nomination. This nation can not afford more Democrat-Lite Republican presidents that, in their heart, believe that 'government' solutions are best and that the American people can't exist without some government 'help'. That would be Romney for sure and perhaps a few other current Republican presidential wannabes.

Until he proves to be one of those, which I seriously doubt will happen, I support Herman Cain. The other candidates can keep their 'experience' in helping us get to where we are, today. I prefer a man that isn't steeped in the Washington Beltway mindset that believes only government can really make things happen when the opposite is true. As Rush pointed out, government just gets in the way.

“The Divine One” may be correct in his assertion that America has “lost it.” He may realize that he is a symptom of America’s death. America is no longer composed of a people but has become a mere demographic.

Rush is so right about the malaise having permeated every where. I have been lucky thus far in the Obummer economy, but so many near and dear to me have not, and it affects me almost as much as it does them. I also have less actual income because I am trying to help my less fortunate family/friends in any way I can. This would never be factored in to any economic model, but it’s depressing effect is real nonetheless, and I’m sure I’m not the only one.

True, it isn’t just Obama, it’s a system of beliefs shared by his fellow liberals, progressives, and socialists. The healthy, energetic free market must be hobbled, curbed, humbled, and trained to move at an artificial gait which they find acceptable. The old communists wanted a new kind of human. The current batch of tyrants are more inclined to break the legs of the old kind of human — and call it “justice.”
