These "debates" [10 so far] have become the narrative creating tool orchestrated by the MSM.

The GOP Primary field has let the media line them up on stage to take shots at them and each other.

LONG past time to walk. I hope Gov. Perry leads the way off this "gotcha" stage.

After the Pony-tailed" loser 1992 debate, the public should have laughed these debates off the air.

SIMPSON: So your question is?

PONYTAILED LOSER: Can we focus on the issues and not the personalities and the mud? I think there’s a need, if we could take a poll here with the folks from Gallup perhaps, I think there’s a real need here to focus at this point on the needs.

(Bush 41 and Clinton BLEW it and agreed with his premise) -- He should have been told, "We're not your daddy!"

PONYTAILED LOSER: Could we cross our hearts? It sounds silly here but could we make a commitment? You know, we’re not under oath at this point but could you make a commitment to the citizens of the US to meet our needs, and we have many, and not yours again? I repeat that. It’s a real need, I think, that we all have.

No doubt the media is lining up a stable of questioners for the remaining 14 scheduled debates to make our conservative field look as stupid as the "pony tailed" guy did in 1992.

Debates are a MSM construct, where the Left benefits.

Gov. Perry campaigns best close to the voters.

Charles Krausthammer had, what I think is a very good point in regards to Rick Perry. Perry’s problem is that he was a governor from Texas and that’s all he was.

He knows Texas through and through, but he never gave much thought in regards to national issues or international issues and his provincialism is hurting him.

Debates uncovered for the politically unwashed what the rest of us conservatives already knew about Perry, he is an Open-Borders fraud!

The incident with the pony-tailed guy in 1992 was the absolute nadir of American political discourse, possibly followed closely by AlGore stomping over to George Bush and heavily breathing on him during the 2000 debate.

These "debates" are not debates, but something more akin to the talent segment of the Cornhusker Queen beauty contest. They are moronic and pointless. They should go away, permanently.

And I mean from the general election as well as primary campaigns.

Umm, yes.

Mexico is not the only other country in the world and Texas is not the only state that counts, amigo.

I like Perry and I thought he would perform better than he has been, but he is failing and much of his failure rides upon his shoulder.

The big reason for his failings is an unfamiliarity of the issues brought up at the debates. Where was his 20% flat tax solution until recently? What has he said about immigration outside of a Texas prism?

He should have been been preparing to be president for the past year. He should have been able to point out problems that the average American knows and provide solutions to those problems, even if those solutions weren’t ones that you agree with.

He hasn’t. He stammers because he doesn’t have ready answers.

Don’t like Mitt all you want, but his smoothness shows that he’s been preparing for this for many years.

All the candidates could consider whether these debates are all worth participating in.

Having checked the latest schedule, there are now THREE debates in Nov.

There's now FOUR in Dec.

Three of those are in Iowa in span of eight or nine days.

January has FIVE scheduled debates.

Why so many?

There shouldn’t be more debates than one a month or so.

It sounds like somebody wants a lot of debates because they don’t want candidates to have time to prepare for them.

Sounds like, to me, the GOP did this to help Romney.

Can’t blame others for not showing up.

He should have been been preparing to be president for the past year.

His performance and under prepared campaign is proof positive when he said during his last governor's race he was not planning to run for president, he meant it. It was clearly not his long term ambition.

That’s probably true. If it was true, he might have been better off sitting out until 2016, so he’d be more ready than he’s coming across now.

I know that the presidency is more a team, than the man. But the man has to get there first.

The Debates have not helped conservative candidates.

They’re being picked off one at a time by the media.

Interestingly though, the media protects Romney and ignores his gaffs.

It’s ridiculous. Why jump to their tune? They should run their own campaigns and not give the media a platform to take hits at them.

Why so many? I can only put it down to greed by the state parties and networks.

There are far too many debates this season, 17-19* in 2011; 2007 saw 15 but started earlier.

The three all in Iowa are particularly vexing. In 2007, Iowa had 1 of 2 December debates.

Dec 10th it's in Des Moines on ABC. The 15th Sioux City on Fox. Dec 19th it's back to Des Moines but on PBS & Youtube.

Does anyone believe Des Moines, Iowans, are such fantastically probing questioners that they should get two opportunities in nine days?

There to too many debates, too many participants and the Q&A is too shallow and repetitive. This season it's quantity over quality to be sure.

Actually there's a debate left out of that schedule. It's Nov 5th, Cain vs Gingrich doing Lincoln-Douglas style sponsored by Texas Tea Party Patriots.

** 17-19 depending on whether you also count the DeMint candidate forum & Cain-Newt debate.

Absolutely. Romney's been protected all along. They'll save it for the general when they get him the nomination.

.........”Democrats with ties to Obama said that it had taken an unusually long time for Romney to start getting dinged in his primary fight — Cain has barely touched him, and Bachmann has said precious little about him. At the same time, Democrats spent weeks publicly casting Perry — their best GOP-based weapon against Romney — as a dopey lightweight, a move that lessened the impact of his attacks on his own rivals.”.....
