No matter how much you dislike Perry, I would doubt that he or any other GOPer (including the dread Karl Rove) was behind this. For one thing, I don’t think any of them really fear Cain that much, and for the other, even if they weren’t prevented by being too ethical, they would all be smart enough to know that using these tactics could backfire, either by being revealed or by being turned on them at some future date. There are few people who don’t have some random incident in their past that can be distorted and manipulated.

To me, this has all the earmarks of an Obama operation. Remember, that’s how he won one of his elections, by trashing his opponent by leaking ugly things from the opponent’s divorce proceedings. Even the ex-wife came out and said those were exaggerations and statements (mental cruelty) made almost routinely just for the purpose of getting a good divorce settlement, but it was too late once the words had been said.

Which brings me precisely to Cain’s biggest weakness: he has not only no governing or legislative experience, he has virtually no political experience. If he had, he would have been ready for this. It’s probably nothing major (that is, there probably is a settlement in there somewhere, but these things are often just done simply as a way of moving on without either investigating or admitting guilt). But he should have known that somehow, somebody was going to find out about this.

When GWB ran, he knew that somebody was going to find out about things like his wife’s traffic accident (decades before, in which someone was killed), etc. and he had the answers ready. Like it or not, an effective politician has to be aware that things like this are going to happen.

You know who changed all this? Bill Clinton.

Clinton has two major accomplishments to his credit: He got the Republicans in control of Congress and he shut up the feminazis.

Perhaps the claim of a 10 day notice to the Cain campaign is just that——a claim.

Maybve they didn’t notify the Cain campaign of this attack.

The comments made by the executives who worked side by side with Cain during the time of this alledged incident know nothing....NOTHING.

IF there was such a claim, the other executives & board of directors would HAVE to have known. IF there was any kind of insurance about this kind of claim, such info would have to have been discussed with the people who were holding various executive positions within the NRA at that time. Such an event cannot be kept from the executives of the organization. They have a fiduciary responsibility to the organization & they take such seriously.

These other executives have spent their lives building a reputation & a history of their accomplishments. NONE of them would come forward in any manner if this claim was true, IMO. Their comments are strong & clear. I believe each & every one of them.

This whole thing is nuts.

Again, I reserve judgement.

I don’t know what kind of agreements are in place with the women, but Cain talking about it probably terminates the, releasing these women all over the talk shows. I don’t even know what the allegations are, much less if they are true.

Gold digger wives have nothing on gold digger females in business careers…get what you can and start a new job.”””

IIRC- all such funds received are TAX FREE, also. That is a very powerful incentive.

How about a women who has been not performing to company standards & knows she is on short time & won’t get a grand golden parachute? She can cook up a story & get a much bigger payout.

There is a reason why some companies won’t hire women.

..."that these women picked out a target"

That target may have been the organization, not Cain. Possible it was policy to simply pay out, so let's see how many pay-outs there were in total. They may have thrown money at every whiff of a discrimination or harassment suit.

It only makes me wonder if it was fabricated by the dnc

This goes back to LBJ accusing his opponent of having sex with a pig. His adviser said everyone knew it was a false charge and LBJ replied "I know, but I just want to hear him deny the charge".

Yaaaaawwwwwnnnnn. Was anybody killed? Was anyone raped or assaulted? Was anyone convicted or even arrested? Has there been a recent similar incident?

Gonna have to be a whole lot more before I get concerned. I haven’t decided yet who I think would be best, but I’ll vote for anyone who is not Obama, and not a convicted felon.

The DUI charge almost did GWB in. He wasn't ready for that one.

Scumbag Larry Flynt supposedly offered $1 million for sexual dirt on Rick Perry.

Who’s to say this isn’t the same sort of deal?

This reminds me of a personal story. I was falsely accused of a serious traffic misdemeanor by a bad cop, with surrounding circumstances that were ugly for the cop. I was deciding which lawyer to hire (a fighter or a settler). My wife said to hire the fighter, and pay every penny it takes to clear my name, even though settling would have been cheaper.

She was right. And the DA dropped the charge right after the “fighter” lawyer first spoke to her.

Settling can be easier at the time, but preserving your good name can be worth a substantial investment. (Not that Cain might even have had control of the decision whether to settle).

Anyone who finds this story important should read Clarence Thomas’ excellent autobiography.

IIRC (and I may not) the drunk driving charge had actually been brought up earlier, during a gubernatorial campaign or in some similar situation. I think he probably felt that he had dealt with it, although he certainly should have realized that nothing is ever final with the Dems, especially since they had been trying to create the media image of him as a raving alcoholic for years.

If you’ve run into Longbow1969 very much, you’ll see where he’s coming from.
