Problems at San Onfre nuke plant
“Yes Sir, they are pert and perky. And big.”
400,000D...I’ll say;)
In a nuclear plant like San Onofre, the condensate that will be heated to make steam is pumped through mixed bed demineralizers. Eventually the resins in these beds get used up, and have to be regenerated.
The bed is removed from service, and the resins are separated into cation and anion resins, and they are put into separate tanks. The anion resins are regenerated using sodium hydroxide solution, and the cation resins are regenerated with sulfuric acid.
The separation process is not perfect. Some cation resin will stay in the anion, and vice versa. Ammonia is used to neutralize these bits so as not to mess up the condensate chemistry when the bed us put back into service.
>>There was a red glow in the western sky for a while but it faded away and now its dark.
Don’t forget to note that the glow was from a massive nuclear reaction.
Quick, send in Jane Fonda.
I like that. Would she work better than boric acid as an additive to the core?
