Protesters, Homeless Share Turf–and Tension (OWS marxists hate homeless people...)
Wall Street Journal ^ | 1/1/11 | TAMARA AUDI

When Alan Rieger, a 53-year-old homeless man living in downtown Los Angeles, saw tents pop up on the front lawn of city hall he left his usual spot on a nearby sidewalk and moved in with Occupy LA protesters.

"It's safer here," Mr. Rieger said. "When you're out on the streets anybody can stomp on your head."

Protesters gave Mr. Rieger and his friend, another homeless man, a tent and offered them food. And Mr. Rieger says he supports the protesters' message against corporate greed.

But some Occupy protesters have complained to police about the homeless, accusing them of theft, draining resources and causing fights. That has raised the ire of homeless advocates who say the homeless are being unfairly blamed and unevenly treated by protesters and police.

"There have been some pretty anti-homeless sentiments expressed by some of the organizers and some strong accusations made," said Becky Dennison, co-director of LA Community Action Network, a homeless advocacy group. "That's been a little bit disappointing."

Funny how the OWS are blaming all the rapes and robberies on the homeless, yet they won’t report the crimes to the police. It appears the homeless are a convenient scapegoat for the OWS criminals.

“Free food! Free love! Booze! Drugs!. Come one, come all!”

I heard somewhere that that's exactly what the NYPD is doing in Manhattan. They're not printing up fliers, but they are directing the homeless to Zuccotti Park.

Uhm, I'm confused. I thought when one group of people that have less stuff, get stuff from another group of people that have more stuff, it is good.

Nobody cares about the .01 percent!!!

Funny how the 1% are worried when they find themselves as 99%ers confronting THEIR lower 1% Brothers......

It’s not theft. It’s progressive property redistribution.

"People here are trying to help," said Robert Clark, a 48-year-old from Pennsylvania who came to Los Angeles for a dry-cleaning job that didn't pan out. Mr. Clark was unable to work after a heart attack in 2007. He couldn't afford a permanent place to live on his $800 a month disability payment from the federal government, and has been living on the streets for a few years.

Whoa, whoa, whoa, wait just a cotton-picking minute. Homeless on $800 a month from the fed??? Dude, I was a graduate student living on that. I rented a house in Southern Illinois for $375 and that was only 10 years ago. Now you can't get much in Los Angeles for that, but he doesn't have to stay there, this money is from the fed, it's good no matter where he goes. If he went back to Pennsylvania he could find himself a decent little apartment for under $400 and he could get by okay enough. I did it for YEARS. Man, this is B.S.

You are so right! Hell, he doesn’t have to move back to PA, even. There are plenty of smaller California towns where he could find cheap lodging and make a go of it. And if he got a roommate to share expenses, he might even be comfortable. I hate the MSM’s inability to distinguish unwilling from unable.

LOL. The people who are complaining that everyone else has to much are screaming about the people who have less then they do and want some of it.

I hate moving cross-country for a minimum wage job that doesn't pan out.
