Teen dies in accident; was texting while driving [drove into tree]
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette ^ | November 2, 2011

A teenage girl died Tuesday night in a one-vehicle accident in Butler County that state police said involved texting while driving.

Alexis Summers, 17, of Saxonburg, was killed when the 2003 Subaru Legacy she was driving hit a tree after 10 p.m. off Hannastown Road in Jefferson.

Her vehicle veered to the right berm of the roadway and onto a slight grass embankment, police said. Ms. Summers then apparently overcompensated while steering back onto the road. Her car spun around and hit the tree. She was pronounced dead at the scene by the Butler County deputy coroner.

You sir are more than an ass. You are gangrenous pus oozing out of an infected limb, a mindless, unfeeling piece of shit.

I have three kids with the last learning to drive. At 17 to have their life cut off, their family devastated, nothing left ...

Just so you know - kids think they’re invincible - they think they’ve got it all together - they’re mistaken and we do our best to caution them but we cannot always be there. We hope and pray our lessons have been learned but a moments inattention in today’s world can be deadly.

A silent prayer for the gal, full of a life cut short, her family, friends and you.

That is exactly what we have gotten the two older ones. We refer to them as “terrorist cell phones”... simply because you can put the minutes/hours on and is very basic. If one is stolen, we aren’t as concerned since we know there is four or five hours on it only. I know a lot of FR’s live in better areas than I do. However, a parent has to think of their child’s safety. My girlfriend’s teen daughter had a frightening experience over the Summer. She was coming home from practice and a carload of young men kept following her (hooting and hollering out the window and yelling disgusting things). Poor girl was frightened to death and called Daddy. Well, Daddy met her within seven minutes. He knew where she was and kept the line going so he could hear. The car saw his truck pulling up and raced away. One may ask, “Why didn’t she call the police?” Simply put... the police could have been ten minutes or longer away and Daddy knew her car/location/and got there lightening quick.

“So helpful to those who have lost a child when helpful “well it could have been worse” remarks are made”So helpful to those who have lost a child when helpful “well it could have been worse” remarks are made”

OK, how about this for help: STOP GIVING YOUR STUPID KIDS EVERYTHING UNTIL THEY LEARN RESPONSIBILITY TO HANDLE IT!!! You might just save their life.

“they’re mistaken and we do our best to caution them but we cannot always be there”

Unfortunately that is ALL most parents do: Talk. No oversight. No riding with them and teaching. No discussions. No discipline when found to be infracting. Nothing, just hollow words. The lazy SOBs then think they are good parents.

I have some sympathy for the girl’s family, but none at all for the girl. Anyone who had to share the road with her is better off now. Idiots like her are a menace. He family can suck it up. I’ve been sucking it up for three years.

Personally, I wouldn’t make a law against texting, talking on cell phones, etc, while driving. I WOULD make it an “aggravating circumstance.” And if you killed somebody, it would be murder and you’d be punished accordingly.

Actually, I have sympathy for both.
If she was given a car and a phone with the ability to text, her parents didn’t guide her correctly.

I don’t want to think about the “Oh Crap” moment the girl went through.

SPOT ON!!!!!

The cops are good guys but Mom and Dad (especially my Former Marine hubby with the CCW) are quicker and more deadly.

Kids are kids. They are little “skulls full of mush” that we are charged by the Lord above to train to be adults. Until they are 18, they are under my thumb.

It did sort of make me chuckle in a way because she was teary and yelling, “Daddy!”. Poor thing has the dickens scared out of her. To be honest, it was one of those times that scared us as well. So many horrible things go through your mind... would they have bumped her car to get her to stop? Could they have smashed the window to drag her through? We live in some rough, horrible, brutal times and they are/will be our babies!

That’s why both my girls have taken Krav Maga self defense and shoot every Friday. You’re right. They need to be kept safe.

why do the same people get caught repeatedly?

Why are there repeat gun criminals? Repeat "sex offenders" because the liberal judges won't throw the book at them. There shouldn't be any repeat offenders.

Do you realize how tough it is in Germany to get a drivers license? It should be like that here.

Then we could drive 130MPH on the interstates.

Cause an accident...go to jail.

What is a gun criminal? An artificial liberal concept trying to tie firearms to criminal behavior. Not a good analogy on a conservative forum.

So if I have this right, you're saying that because punishing drunk drivers isn't working now on the hard core offenders we should do more of it. These people simply don't care about licenses suspensions, jail time, etc, and before you advocate locking them up and trowing the key away, remember jail resources are limited and there are plenty of violent criminals like murderers, robbers, rapists, etc. that you have to balance available resources with. There might be more jail space availiable if the government gave up its absurd "war on drugs," but of course they will never do that. There are too many armed bureaucrats whose paychecks depend on it. Once a bad idea gets started in government it NEVER goes away.

No, the other way around. If one shot you, you would figure it out real fast.

you're saying that because punishing drunk drivers isn't working now on the hard core offenders we should do more of it.

Yeah, pretty much.

These people simply don't care about licenses suspensions, jail time, etc...you advocate locking them up and trowing the key away

They'd play hell ignoring that now wouldn't they.

remember jail resources are limited and there are plenty of violent criminals like murderers, robbers, rapists, etc. that you have to balance available resources with.

What's the difference if they kill with a gun or a car? They need to keep more of the criminals you mentioned locked up too.

There might be more jail space availiable if the government gave up its absurd "war on drugs,"

I didn't suggest that, but it appears you swerved into a solution. Some of the drug dealers are violent criminals, but we could just put the regular drug offenders somewhere else...concentration camps (or whatever you want to call them). Same with pedophiles.

If they would start killing off liberal social programs which only generate feral criminal activity, and appropriate those funds for prison construction materials (letting chain-gangs do the heavy lifting) maybe the public would be getting it's money's worth.

of course they will never do that. There are too many armed bureaucrats whose paychecks depend on it. Once a bad idea gets started in government it NEVER goes away.

It will if you keep getting TEApublicans elected, replace as needed, until the socialist usurpation is reversed. That and banning government unions.

Thanks for the prayers. I’m sorry that my sarcasm inflamed you so much. It was not my intent. I have had a close friend killed by a drunk driver. A co-workers daughter was killed by a vehicle driven by another teen while she was texting. I have seen first hand the tragedy that the families have to endure. Needlessly so. You are right that kids think they are invincible. I’m sure that as a kid I thought I was too. My parents instilled the idea that everything has a consequence. I didn’t have the luxury of all the electronic devices that allow kids or adults to be that distracted behind the wheel. Since I don’t believe we need a bunch of laws to protect us from ourselves, it is up to us to have some common sense and not do stupid things while behind the wheel. I agree with you that the lesson that should be taken away from this tragedy is that ‘a moments inattention can be deadly’. Prayers back to you and your family.

Is it soda, pop, soda pop? Just asking.

It's coke. It's all coke. It doesn't matter if it's Coke or not, it's coke.
