Not that it matters but she did have an Obama sticker.

A teenage girl died Tuesday night in a one-vehicle accident in Butler County that state police said involved texting while driving.
Alexis Summers, 17, of Saxonburg, was killed when the 2003 Subaru Legacy she was driving hit a tree after 10 p.m. off Hannastown Road in Jefferson.
Her vehicle veered to the right berm of the roadway and onto a slight grass embankment, police said. Ms. Summers then apparently overcompensated while steering back onto the road. Her car spun around and hit the tree. She was pronounced dead at the scene by the Butler County deputy coroner.

Many inexperienced and some experienced drivers are involved in accidents where they overcompensate when they drive off the edge of the road.
It is so simple just to drive down the edge and come back on the road slowly.
Inexperience was a major factor here as well as texting.
Yes, but very few of them do, especially if the girl avoids acting like a total idiot. For most users of any age, the cell phone is purely a convenience, not a necessity for safety.
A police officer can already pull you over and ticket you for any of those idiot maneuvers, its called careless driving.
You might try and fight it in court, but there’s a better than average chance the judge will agree with the cop.

If one of our children is going to need a phone, to call us when it’s time to pick him up, for example, I let him carry mine. This is a very rare occurrence, since they’re usually at events - Boy Scouts, church youth meetings - with plenty of adults who have phones they can use to call us.
In the trunk, for example.

Then why do the same people get caught repeatedly? In spite of MADD's lobbying for ridiculously low illegal levels, there are still loads of drunk drivers. They just don't care.
Which, if it is a thousand dollar fine, is a lot less serious than getting killed or killing someone else.
You don't seem to catch on that some people just can't seem to pay attention to what they're doing. The urge to talk, text, etc. is just too strong. A secretary I had from a previous job was like that. She had been in at least 8 minor accidents in three years. And in every case it was legally her fault (She ren into things - mostly other cars, but the occasinal roadside garbage can, etc.) BUT in her mind it was never her fault. She was "looking for an address" or "talking to someone about something important." etc. I'm surprised her husband didn't divorce her. He kept her out of trouble by paying off her victims. You no doubt remember them from school. The ones that didn't shut up no matter what the teacher did or said.

As a driver of a van pool, I won't answer my phone if I have one rider on board. My riders often watch other drivers talking or texting. They can identify a texting driver in the lanes ahead by their driving habits. I've come close to having been run off the road in my pickup by someone texting.
His first sentence was accurate, the second was insensitive to say the least.
However, families, ie, FATHERS, should lay down the law with these teens, who obviously aren’t earning enough to pay for car payments, insurance, gas, taxes, cell phones & texting plans -
no texting while driving or you don’t get to use the car OR the phone.
Simpler to remove the abilty of mobile phones to send and recieve wireless transmissions. Instead build a network of "landlines" that you plug your phone into.

You know... I bet if you marketed a cell phone jammer that could be installed under the dash, not a powerful one but a small device that jammed just in a 4’ radius or so, that parents would buy them.
Make it so that while the car was running it would just powerful enough to jam inside the cab, if the kid wanted to talk on the phone the car would have to be turned off.
I hate to say it, but I’m glad he’s out of the gene pool but I’m glad he didn’t take anyone with him. I hope it hurt.
As for all you “You’re a horrible person” morons - a clown was texting and driving when he hit my car from behind. The gas tank exploded and my daughter will have horrible burn scars for the rest of her life. Death is a good fate for idiots like this one.
Someone texting is just as dangerous to others on the road as a drunk driver.
Do with that what you will.
And that’s exactly how I handle it with my kids.
No action is totally bad. This girl now serves as a horrible example
I like to “read” while I drive - but I bought a Kindle and have it read to me while drive!
