Woman Who Accused Cain Won’t Go Public, Lawyer Says (8:40 p.m. | Updated)
NYT ^ | November 2, 2011 | MICHAEL D. SHEAR, JEFF ZELENY and JIM RUTENBERG

Posted on 11/02/2011 6:22:38 PM PDT by Brandonmark

Joel P. Bennett, the lawyer for one of the women who has made accusations against Mr. Cain, said that his client had decided not to go public or to make a public statement herself in an effort to shield herself from the media frenzy swirling around the situation.

“She’s not going to affirmatively make any public statements or public appearances about the case, everything will be through me,” Mr. Bennett said. “She has a life to live and a career, and she doesn’t want to become another Anita Hill.”

“I believe this is a watershed moment for journalistic standards.”

Those on the other side know full well what they are doing along with a complicit media.

The narrative’s been set, albeit temporarily, that of unsubstantiated allegations, whether true or false, it’s all at the top of the news as well as ticker’s at the bottom of every news outlet.

The powers that be are stacked against Cain, the same ones who had it out for Palin. I think those powers that be KNOW that Cain’s rise is because and from of Palin and her supporters.

We true conservatives love Cain for mostly the same reasons we loved Sarah. Cain was the logical choice from the current lineup for her supporters to turn to when she decided not to run and I fully expect that when the timing is right she will step forward with her endorsement for him. In fact I’ll go so far as to believe that had Cain not entered the race, she would have.

Cain expected all this was going to happen. He knows national politics is a hardball bloodsport.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Cain came out to diffuse this with statements much like those vanity posts that have been popping up here all night.

“BREAKING: Hillary to Bill - My Turn!”

“BREAKING: Helen Thomas sues for lack of sexual harassment from Herman Cain”

“!!Breaking!! Meghan McCain Sexual Harassment Claim”

ETC...

It’ll be funny as hell with Herman’s sense of humor, it’s part of what makes him appealing to many. (like the ad with the cigarette)

If these accusations are as I assume to be groundless then he will at the same time be calling them on it at the same time.

Sick games.

I don’t care who the politician might be, this is disgustingly unfair.

Cain should be able to face his accuser or she should SFU.

And you know that how? Your kind of response is the reason any woman would be crazy to go on the record for this sort of thing if she could avoid it.

It’s been acknowledged all around that she exists, that she filed a complaint, and got a settlement under nondisclosure terms. She’s not the one who took it to the media, but it’s out there now.

Do you blame her for either wanting her side of the story represented or for not wanting all the trash and hatred such as FReepers have been heaping on her for two days to follow her through her life?

Bennett is a media hound...the type of lwyer we used to call ambulance chasers.

He’s all about himself and doesn;t even know what a fool he is making of himself.

Well, is that what she is doing? If so, then what is her story? I haven't heard anything specific. And why did she sign off on the nondisclosure agreement if she did not agree with the terms, which she obviously does not now after all these many years.

Are you comfortable with setting a precedent that anyone can, anonymously through a lawyer, hurl accusations at anyone, and the accused is unable to confront the accuser?

He should face all four of his accusers and he will if he enters into the general election. :(

From The Right Scoop...

http://www.therightscoop.com/cain-accuser-doesnt-want-to-become-another-anita-hill/

Also, the jerk from the Iowa radio station who accused Cain of “inappropriate” remarks made to the secretary at the station, but wouldn’t say what he actually said, has released a statement:

“No one affiliated with our radio program has anything else to say about Herman Cain’s awkward and inappropriate comments made to our staff referenced in a recent Politico story beyond what we have already said. Sadly, those comments are no more inappropriate and awkward than Mr. Cain’s multiple positions on the sanctity of human life, his support of the TARP, his not knowing China already has nuclear weapons, and his refusal to defend marriage. The fact that someone so uninformed and morally inconsistent has made it this far in a crucial Republican presidential primary, only to finally be vetted by his personal life, is an example of why so many Americans have lost faith in the system. Instead of debating issues we debate cults of personality. This sort of personality-driven politics helped Obama get elected four years ago, and look how well that turned out.”

No, he doesn’t have an agenda does he? Sounds like he doesn’t like Herman Cain and took a shot to try and derail his campaign. He was too much of a coward to give specifics that could have been investigated. He just wanted to pile on while the gettin’ was good. Well, he’s exposed himself as a fraud in my opinion.

What that tells me is that whoever the woman was from yesteryear, she is NOT behind THIS! Bennett could be making this whole thing up, based entirely on crap fed to him by Cain’s former campaign advisor who now works for Perry! Based on what was told Bennett, he may have tried to GET her to come out and reopen the case, and she told Bennett to go choke his chicken! I do not trust Perry or his organization!

If this woman comes out, Cain will be able to use the investigative report to dispute her baseless claims.

When there is a small settlement, the accuser has a much greater interest in non-disclosure than the company.

Not if she was telling the truth, lurker. If she had that much integrity, she would want to make the truth known. Judging by your reaction, is it possible you can’t imagine a woman with that much backbone?

I don’t know about other folks experiences but I’d have to say that the bleeding edge-effect peak period of invasive political correctness in the workplace was in that era from 1998 through 2002 or so.

By “bleeding edge-effect peak” I mean the period where folks of old school ethos were getting ambushed by the politically correct scalp-seekers.

Anyone agree?

I agree that a trend existed, but I believe it began earlier that 1998. I would say, from my experience, that the period was 1992 through 2000. That's just my $0.02
