Perry Claims He Can Secure Border in One Year as President
Fox ^ | November 3, 2011 | Hannity interviews Gov. Rick Perry

Posted on 11/03/2011 8:46:48 AM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

....PERRY: Well, let me just put it this way. The federal government's complete and absolute failure to secure our border put a lot of pressure on governors no matter where they might be to have to deal with issues. You are required to give health care, you are required to give education. And Texans made a decision -- are we going to kick these people to the side of the road and they are going to become tax wasters? Or are we going to require that they become citizens of the United States and become taxpayers? We chose the latter. I would still do that today, considering the barriers that if you will, the arena that we have to work in.

As the president of the United States, I am against the DREAM Act. I will shut that border down because I have had to deal with it for 10 years. I understand. I am putting Texas Rangers and National Guard, I am putting Texas citizens on the line over there, they are being fired at. Thank God none of them have been killed yet. But the fact is, I know how to secure that border. When I am the president, that border will be secure. And these issues that we have been forced to deal with as governors, will start being alleviated. And then we can have a decent, a thoughtful and economically focused conversation about immigration policy.

HANNITY: So you think you could secure the border in what period of time if you're president?

PERRY: I think you can do it within a year. I mean, seriously, within a year --

Land Patrol is inefficient and costly, air patrol via light weight drone and air craft is a far more usable system backed up with either ground based response or air mobile assets.

As far as shoot first attitude, no thanks arrest and send back unless fired upon WE are supposed to be the MORE civilized country.

No. Obama and his frauds have “put the kid on the path to citizenship”? I’d say that we need to get rid of Obama, Incompetano, and the rest as well as Rick Perry. How does cheating and breaking the law put anyone on the path to citizenship? And if it does, that clearly needs to be fixed.

As it happens, I supported Perry for governor in the last election, because he was clearly better than Kay Bailey Hutchinson. But that ain’t sayin’ a hell of a lot. And the more I see of him, the less I’m sure that he IS better.

There are Federal Laws to deal with such as ALL STATES MUST provide a K-12 education for ALL persons including illegals.

Medical...would you let an illegal 12 year old girl die in the street?? Of course not.

We have always provided for people who came here...legal or illegal....or who were loyal to the king!! Imagine that!!

We are a compassionate people. Always have been. Always will be...I hope. It's why we are great!!

"Perry’s suggestion last night on Hannity was refreshing. He says we need to secure the border first. There’s not a person in the world besides Obama that doesn’t agree with that position. Of all the candidates, Perry has the most depth and breadth of experience in dealing with the border."

But he has already said he is for an open border. If that's part of his comprehensive plan, then at least it's simple, which is fitting for him.

I agree with you regarding deportations. First and foremost it should be acknowledged that deportation in mass numbers is doable and on the table. It would go far in determining the nature of any larger immigration reform we settle on after the border is operationally secure.

Good lord. Why waste time with these anti-Perry trolls. They spew their DU talking points, lie their asses off, then do it again. Wonder if they get paid by the word or amount of spittle?

if you really think a fence is all that... I guess the Maginot line was the end all and be all of defense stratagems. (in reality of course the Maginot line was not what most people think, I am invoking the common view of it not the reality..)

Fortification (fence) is places of high value are a good idea, but to in remote locations it would be of little hindrance to any one that has planned to cross (coyotes) as rather simple equipment can remove a section of fence with ease.

“Past actions are great indicators of future choices.

Simple as that.”

Guess that philosophy removes Cain from White House contention.

Not exactly, that’s why what Perry is proposing is so effective. You fence the part that is the main crossing points and then have preditors and boots on the ground to keep after the rest IN ADDITION to watching what is happening at the fenced portions. California built the fence, but without the federal government putting boots on the ground and drones in the air it’s meaningless.

" What a flip flopper. I have heard Perry will say anything to win. "

Just like his buddy Mitt Romney, grasping at straws to garner votes any way they can.

Perrywinkle is the GOP establishment/anti-Tea Party's back up plan in case Romney does not get the nomination, however ? Perry failed.

They tried that kind of approach in Arizona - using boots and technology to compensate for the lack of a fence.

It didn't work.

We need to learn from mistakes, not demand that they be repeated.
