Some politicians fear citizens with .50 caliber rifles--and that's a good thing
St. Louis Gun Rights Examiner ^ | 2 November, 2011 | Kurt Hofmann

Yesterday, in discussing Senator Dianne Feinstein's (D-CA) and Assistant Attorney General Lanny Breuer's continuation of the attempt to exploit "gunwalked" guns for more restrictive firearms regulation, we noted Feinstein's breathless hysteria regarding .50 caliber rifles:

And the problem is anybody can walk in and buy anything, .50 caliber weapons, a sniper weapons, buy them in large amounts, and send them down to Mexico.

As the Sipsey Street Irregulars' Mike Vanderboegh notes, .50 caliber rifles seem to be something of an obsession of hers:

There is one thing that is always fascinating to me about Feinstein. She can't mention gun control without mentioning fifty caliber rifles. I mean she is a monomaniac on the subject. It is obvious that the thought of a projectile which can be fired from a mile away that can penetrate her limousine's armor in some nominal green zone "safe envelope" is the stuff of her nightmares.

She has, in fact, introduced legislation to impose draconian restrictions on .50 caliber rifles and ammunition in the past (are we approaching "the time and place" for her to try again?). Nor is she alone among California's congressional delegation in her terror of these guns. Representative Henry Waxman (D-CA) has even specifically mentioned the "limousine-busting" capabilities of .50 caliber projectiles, in an MSNBC hysteria piece years ago:

This kind of weapon can blow up a limousine or a helicopter, can take out a vehicle, armored vehicle, maybe even a mile away. It can shoot through seven buildings!

He does not seem to have outgrown that fear, and still lists more oppressive regulation of .50 caliber guns as a priority on his "issues" (and he has "issues," alright) page:

It might be worth it to stop trespassing. I need something with a bigger bang, A .30-06 doesn’t seem to impress them.

Barretts are hard to conceal under clothing.

Maybe not "under clothing" but these looks pretty interesting;

Very nice. Now all I have to do is decide which of my kids I would sell to get one.

The bigger danger to tyrants is IEDs and robots. A 2007 Boston advertising campaign with light emitting diodes placed around town ruffled a lot of feathers. A few well placed joke devices would do more psychological damage to their dreams of power than .50 caliber ownership.

Speaking of which, Mrs. Chandler and I just got back from the firing range where I put 50 rounds through my birthday present, a snub-nosed .38. Best. Lunch. Break. Ever.

What is the caliber of Waxman’s nostrils?

I'm pretty sure those qualify as WMD's at that caliber.

Barretts are hard to conceal under clothing. Other than that, I can’t think of anything wrong with having one.

I've found if you skip the clothing it alleviates that problem and no one notices the Barrett.

The only reason things like that are disconcerting is that the people possess the ability to harm the tyrants if they get out of line. It there wasn’t this possibility, no threatening pictures or jokes would make them nervous.

It is not just .50 caliber rifles of course. What the "elite" really fear is that they may be held accountable for their actions.

Bingo!

Any politician who does not trust me to own a gun will never get my vote.
