Perry suggests US visa program to let illegal immigrants come and go freely; opposes amnesty
Washington Post ^ | November 3, 2011

Posted on 11/04/2011 7:39:05 AM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

“You can put a program into place in which these individuals can be identified, and work visas in which they can move back and forth between their countries but not to become United States citizens,” Perry said. “And I think that’s where McCain, that’s where Romney, that’s where even Bush went wrong when they talked about the issue that, ‘we’re going to give amnesty to these individuals,’ and people just said, ‘no, we’re not.’”

Perry didn’t elaborate on what such a visa plan would look like, saying only that authorities need to determine a better way to identify illegal immigrants and make them part of mainstream society. He also said the program would only work if the federal government first does a better job securing America’s borders.

“I disagree with the concept that somehow or another we’re going to pack up 10, to 12, to 15 million people and ship them back to the country of origin. That’s not going to happen,” Perry said. “So realty has to be part of our conversation. And then you need to have a strategy to deal with it. That is what I think we will have, but first you have to secure that border.”

Perry called Washington’s efforts to stop the flow of illegal immigrants “an abject failure” but said that, as president, he could accomplish the task in just a year using the existing fence, more border patrol agents and air surveillance.

Indeed and I am a chest-thumping nativist. Perry is as trustworthy as a gypsy.

Breakfast was made and dishes were washed and put away hours ago.

Laundry was finished yesterday and my ironing is set for this afternoon.

The garden looks great and the groceries were bought and put up Wednesday.

The bills are paid and all my Christmas cards are addressed and waiting for the Christmas letter we will be putting together this month.

The toilets are scrubbed and the floors mopped. The dusting is done and the repairman came yesterday to fix the broken magnet on the front door alarm.

I will be babysitting my grandchildren this weekend.

Anything else you can think of for me to do?

Guess you're not a fan of John Tanton then? ;^)

I knew FR had its fair share of nativists, just didn't realize how many there were infesting the forum.

In the end the immigration problem will include solutions more in line with Gov Perry's ideas, then what John Tanton and his followers have in mind.

It is astonishing that for all the human resources, wasted tax money and lost lives - no public official has presented a workable, humane and practical solution.

Illegal is the operative word.

What is needed is a comprehensive census to identify illegal immigrants (when they apply for employment, benefits, drivers licenses, rentals, medical care etc.,)They should be immediately registered with the INS - given a background check/clearance and if appropriate - a ticket and orders to return to their country of origin. If they have a sponsor (citizen employer or relative) who can vouch for their good character and sound financial assets, they should be given a 6 month window, a contingent/temporary work permit to be renewed annually at INS.

When minor children are involved - I have no idea what we could do to correct this crisis.

This is the stuff on Perry's immigration record I have dug up over the past couple of weeks. For some of it I have to give a hat tip to Emile over at Pesky Truth blog. But the videos and links to articles should be a good starting point.

Click here: Rick Perry on Illegal Immigration (Opens in new window)

I welcome additional help compiling more. I just don't have all the time in the world.

Oh yes

So if we oppose perry’s de facto amnesty plan we are racist?

You forgot the heartless accusation. Not only is perry dumber than my garage door, but also more dishonest and anti
-american.

Why don’t we let murderers to come and go too?

If an illegal immigrant that is in the US illegally goes to the federal building to seek a Visa to come to the US legally, why shouldn't that illegal immigrant be arrested on the spot?

Every time I've traveled aboard, I am required to have a Visa before I get there, not apply for one once I've arrived.

I am of mixed race, bigotpulpit.

My first political activity was petitioning to have immigration process military spouses quicker than the eight years it was taking at the time. But I do want only people who are self supporting and without a criminal record to be allowed in. this puts me diametrically opposed to Rick Perry.

My position is stated on my homepage, bigot, and has been for years.

Which of my races and the races of my children's makeup do you think I specifically hate, bigotpulpit.

“Give me your candidates’ plan. Lay it out there for the thread.”

Didn’t Cain have one? BTW, wouldn’t Perry’s “plan” require a constitutional change to get rid of the anchor baby problem?

Are you ready to have an honest conversation about illegal immigration on FR, or are you all in with the Ad hominem crowd? I just trying to keep score (-;

>>>>>>I am a chest-thumping nativist.

So, you do prefer the electrified fence that Cain wants, or may be land mines and machine guns are your choice of border deterrents to stop illegal aliens from crossing over the Tex-Mex border. Btw, what do you propose to stop legal immigrants from entering the US?

I see; nativists are those who realize that la raza ricardo has redefined amnesty in his own mind.

I dislike ad hominems too, so why don't you know them off?

My position is simple - enforce the laws on the books.

Somehow I don't think you'll accept that POV.
