OAKLAND -- More than 100 people were arrested Thursday during a chaotic confrontation in downtown Oakland which a splinter group of protesters set fires, vandalized buildings and hurled objects at police, authorities say.

Of the 103 people taken into custody, 32 were from Oakland and another 42 were from other Bay Area cities, officials said.

Fifteen arrestees were from other parts of California, while nine were from other states, including Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Texas and Utah, police said.

The hometowns of three people who were arrested could not be determined.

Authorities said they arrested 25 women and 76 men at Frank Ogawa Plaza near City Hall and on nearby streets, where protesters had taken over a building, set fires, vandalized buildings with graffiti and threw bricks and other objects at officers wearing riot helmets.

Two of those arrested were 17-year-old juveniles who were cited and released. One was from San Mateo County, other from Washington state.

Hey Janet.. we caught some of them 'homegrowns' you are so leery of.. seems the natives are getting mighty restless.

Seems like crossing state lines to foment 'change' ought to be under the microscope a wee bit more, jmho.

Business owners in Oakland likely agree.

I’m so glad that Occupy is peaceful unlike those evil astroturf racist Tea Partiers bringing guns to protests (/s)

Domestic terrorists. But it's all good. Pelosi supports them.

A curious reporter would check to see if these people are being paid and if so, how it is being reported and what training they are getting to prepare them for the conditions they face out there in the elements.

The women being abused can even sue for sexual harassment.

“Splinter group” my arse.

What is the central agenda of the Occupiers? Taking wealth away from some and distributing it to themselves. They are all criminals.

Pelosi supports them.

And they support Pelosi, (even if they don't all live in her district).

Those anarcho-terrorists should be sent to Guantanamo for at least 10 years.

Agreed - there is a master plan to gradually escalate the violence and exposure. We've got Oakland going on, and yesterday, the vermin blocked the entrance to Golman Sachs in NYC and had some kind of protest in Mitch McConnell's Senate office. Now - why the heck would these people pick the minority leader of the Senate and not the majority leader? And why protest in front of Goldman Sach's and not GE?

It's obvious what's at play here and we can't rely on the MSM to report it - hopefully Andrew Breitbart and other's are working on the story as we speak.
