The Wisconsin Department of Justice has received more than 20,000 concealed carry applications since the law took effect Tuesday.
Data from the state Justice Department show that as of 4 p.m. Friday, 20,476 applications had been submitted. Of those, 879 concealed carry licenses had been approved and 793 had been printed.
Also, 117 applications were rejected. Agency spokeswoman Dana Brueck said incomplete applicant data, insufficient training documentation or a missing payment are all reasons an application can be rejected.
The state has 45 days to issue a license once a valid application is received.
Brueck said the Justice Department is working to make sure the deadline will be met.
"We have pulled people from various areas within the DOJ to process these applications, and we'll be working through the weekend to do everything in our power to meet the deadlines imposed by the Legislature," she said.

Open the flood gates, there is hope for the Constitution yet!! : D
A friend of mine from the north side of the chedder curtain called last night just to rub this in.
When those are issued, if previous experience is a guide, there will be a marked drop off of violent crime.
Judging from the number of gun incidents that never make the news in my area, usually honest citizens waving off potential criminals, some gun organization should set up a discreet(*) information center, so that when such incidents take place, the gun owner can give them a call, solely to help compile informal statistics on “guns as deterrents”.
(*) As there is assumed to be no need for police involvement.
Political identification breakdwown? Repulicans vs. DemocRATs? Unionists, vs. Tea Party Patriots? What’s up? What’s afoot?
Wisconsin CC ping!
To AIT:
Nobody knows the political party of the applicants, but I’d guess that it is heavily Republican. Republicans (with some Dem support) have been asking for this for years. Dem Governors have vetoed it prior to Scott Walker! I don’t want a permit for myself, but THANK YOU, Scott, for making the state safer for those law-abiding citizens who don’t want to carry themselves.
Scott Walker is my hero.
Warning to criminals and wanna-be criminals. Folks here in Wisconsin aren’t going to sit idly by and let you hurt our neighbors... This warning should be paid attention to by the folks that have been moving into Northern towns in the last year or so from Milwaukee, and Minneapolis, especially.
Your gangland crap will NOT BE TOLERATED here! This isn’t Chicago...
LOL - The Cheddar Curtain! Love that! :)
AMEN! I know the local gun store that just opened yesterday here in Wausau was featured on the news last night, and they have been welcomed with open arms and lots of business. They are the local go-to point for CC permit apps - they also have a specialist for females, and classes for all.
We’ve had some very visible criminal-minded folks move in over the last couple years (as evidenced by the armed robbery spree the last 2 months here). Those folks better think twice now about continuing their behavior - if they value their lives at all...
Stole it. WLS in Chicago uses it all the time.
If you’re a resident of the People’s Rebuplik of IL you can get a Utah permit which the Wisconsin is wise enough to honor.
Let me be the first to predict a lower crime rate in Wisconsin for 2012!
where can I get one of those, may I ask?
I have a Fl. permit that I hope they will soon honor. Don’t know why they do not now.
Can’t you open carry in Wisconsin?
not sure of the laws...just moved back here from FL in June...
