Fraud Case Seen as a Red Flag for Psychology Research
The New York Times ^ | November 2, 2011 | BENEDICT CAREY

A well-known psychologist in the Netherlands whose work has been published widely in professional journals falsified data and made up entire experiments, an investigating committee has found. Experts say the case exposes deep flaws in the way science is done in a field, psychology, that has only recently earned a fragile respectability.

The psychologist, Diederik Stapel, of Tilburg University, committed academic fraud in “several dozen” published papers, many accepted in respected journals and reported in the news media, according to a report released on Monday by the three Dutch institutions where he has worked: the University of Groningen, the University of Amsterdam, and Tilburg. The journal Science, which published one of Dr. Stapel’s papers in April, posted an “editorial expression of concern” about the research online on Tuesday.

Kind of like Bill Murry’s set up at the beginning of Ghost Busters.

He can always go into global warming or become a USFS biologist.

Given recent history of "scientific" hoaxes, it should be obvious that psychology is the least of the offenders. This fraud's writings were wrong but did little harm mainly because nobody paid much attention to them outside of academic circles.

Compare this to the climate change frauds, who are costing us billions of dollars. And Algore isn't even a scientist.

Psychology
Global Warming
Evolution

Some will disagree with the last item on the list, but I maintain that science is often mere scientism. It is a religion and the facts don’t matter — the adherents will make it up if they have to.

So many of scientist’s “studies” are agenda driven, like the “hockey stick” and “vaccine safety tests” so that they can pull the wool over the eyes of people “WITH THE TRUTH AND FACTS” and force policies to corral and destroy Capitalism and freedom and health.

A lot of “science” is all about power and money. Studies which “have” to have particular results, paid for by corporations and governments.

Their object is total control over all the masses—reproduction and property, life and death and activities.

Show me EVOLUTION....show me the skeletons in steps. I don’t believe for a minute that God didn’t make every animal unique and finished. I’m not talking about behavior, I’m talking about PHYSICAL evolution.

Man, you’re crazy if you go to a psychologist.

In my experience they are more ill than most of those in treatment. Of those psychologists who are not ill, they have no solutions that work other than prescriptions from real MDs.

"...I’m talking about PHYSICAL evolution."

"Without a doubt, the ultimate Black Swan is whatever it was that permitted merely genetic human beings to emerge into full humanness just yesterday (cosmically speaking), some 50,000 years ago.

Prior to this there was existence, but so what? There was life, but who cares? With no one to consciously experience it, what was the point? Without self-conscious observers, the whole cosmos could bang into being and contract into nothingness, and it would be no different than the proverbial tree falling in the forest with no one there to hear it.

One of the reasons why this is such a lonely and unpopular blog is that it takes both science and religion seriously. Most science and religion are unserious, but especially -- one might say intrinsically -- when they exclude each other.

A religion that cannot encompass science is not worthy the name, while a science that cannot be reconciled with religion is not fit for human beings. And I mean this literally, in that it will be a science that applies to a different species, not the one that is made to know love, truth, beauty, existence, and the Absolute. Science must begin and end in this principle -- which is to say, the Principle -- or it is just a diversion. ...."

Only with the Gullible. Psychology is the atheist version of spiritual healing. Like all pagan religions it is chaotic at best. Of the Eighty-Eleven branches of the faith, it has yet to come up with a purpose or common ground. Give a hundred years and the "science" will reach the basic respectability and foundation of other somewhat established religions like, say Shamanism.

Psychology remains exactly what it’s Always been, Faith Healing & Snake Oil, a Complete Fraud. And it is anything BUT harmless, since it generates referrals to Psychiatrists and GPs who peddle disability, and worthless, killer drugs.

It's a red flag for grant-based research, period.

You get a grant if your research supports the position the grantee desires, ie. "climate change."

If it doesn't, no grant for you.

"Man, you’re crazy if you go to a psychologist."

"....For example, most of the psychology journals I see are so dopey as to be laughable. And I mean that literally. (Let me say at the outset that there are a number of excellent psychoanalytic journals, but psychoanalysis is not exactly an academic discipline but a clinical one; it only becomes stupid in the hands of academics.) I don't subscribe to any of the big journals in my field. In fact, I'm not even a member of my professional association, the American Psychological Association, because it's just a front for a totolerantarian gang of leftist activists. But I do see some of the journals laying around the office, and I do occasionally flip through them for a laugh. To say that they are shallow does not even begin to address the problem. Virtually every issue has some big study about multiculturalism and the need for what is called cultural competence. ...
