It's not either agree or bicker. They should have called this the Lincoln-Lincoln debates. They didn't challenge each other on anything.

The process of rational argument is hygienic. What we got instead was a televised fundraiser/gabfest. It was interesting for about 20 minutes.

I agree. Newt Gingrich is a politician, politicians can talk for hours on end, with or without saying anything (he was also a professor, and they have that same ability). Herman Cain, however, would appear as though he is not used to blabbing incessantly, having never been a politician. I’d rather have a person think about what they are going to say, and politely say “I need a moment” or something to that effect, instead of having nothing to say and filling an hour with “ums” and “ers” (Like Obama using over an hundred in a few minutes as counted in one clip, or Rick Perrys yammering and stammering at anything and everything).

An intelligent person does not have all answers at the drop of a hat. A person may be an expert in a subject but they still have to formulate their message for the audience they are going to deliver the message to. I appreciate, not criticize the ability to say “I need just one moment” as a respectful use of my time, rather than wasting 10x as long because you were unprepared to give an answer.

Did you mean to say “not?” As in, “They should [not] have called this the Lincoln-Lincoln debates.” I can agree to that. I expected to hear a lot more of what they differed on (there were a few polite moments), so I don’t disagree that the name brought to mind something different than what we got.

However, I must say, that I don’t care to hear any bickering or arguments. This isn’t the 1700’s anymore. We have the internet. We can be informed on what is happening without a “Debate” at all. Here’s what we CAN’T do (well, can, but it hasn’t happened yet) and that is have a time set apart for a candidate (or candidates) to make their case for why they should be the next president, not why someone else SHOULDN’T. That is the EXACT problem with the two party system that is a failure, and which we were warned against. If you sit and criticize and bicker, and finally destroy one political candidate, there is always another one waiting in the wings, just as bad or worse. But, if you are a true patriot, and make that case, then I don’t care who else is put up against you, you’re going to win. And if you get several in one election, who cares! Then you get to have one of many good candidates. This was a real step in the direction of finding winners, not culling losers ‘till you get one loser in the end. And that, I am grateful for.

I agree, see my post in #23. I am sick of watching teenage cat-fights. I want those who run for office to tell me why they are the best, and what their plan is, not sit and rag on someone else and tear them down. I know we all do that at some time or another, but I don’t need one politician to argue with another one to try and convince me of what I want. Then again, I’m not in the “Stupid” crowd who knows very little and has to be told who to support, and many (not all, but many) of those who only learn anything from the television are mindless sheeple. It’s time that those of us who are informed start leading instead of being led. And I think these two men were leaders last night in a bright new era of politics in the United Stated of America.

Thanks, Rick! I saw some of the debate live, but missed the beginning, so this is nice to have. Plus now I can send the link to my Dad, who missed the whole debate.
