Officer on Duty at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier Silences Crowd After Laughter is Heard

"It is requested that everyone maintains a level of silence and respect",says the soldier as he stops in stance and demands silence from a disrespectful crowd w/ rifle out front.

You could have heard a dime drop that day.

Good lord, you should see some of the comments there. People are actually criticizing the Marine for infringing on peoples right to free speech. Those assholes who were laughing should go laugh in front of the White House where its more deserved.

Saw that video too! I get choked up watching these gallant men. There’s such a respect and reverence the likes of which we’ve not seen in this country in decades.

In my experience, when a uniformed, armed member of our military asks you to pipe down, you do it. I, too, would be curious to have seen what happened if the pipsqueaks kept it up.

The first time I visited the USS Arizona Memorial was in the 1970s. It was so perfect and everyone was quiet as they contemplated what it must have been like in those terrible hours. The second time was in the 1990s and I wanted to either scream or throw-up. Tons of people all jabbering away at the same time like it was a ride at Disneyworld. I left disappointed with a tear in my eye and a heavy heart.

I have a feeling “Occupy Tomb Of The Unknown Soldier” would not be a good idea.

He’s not a Marine. He’s Army.

I’m waiting for obama to issue new orders about this, making it OK to disrespect the dead soldiers, the Tomb, and the entire cemetery.

While I agree with the sentiment expressed by the Officer—
in light of all the attacks removing any Christian symbol from display on Government land — I am moved to ask :IS THIS NOT AN ESTABLISHMENT OF RELIGION? The Tomb Guard made a strong request of those standing near the Tomb demanding silence and respect.I can agree with the request but insist it is a Clear Establishment of Religion i.e. worship of the unknown dead? There is NO Military Guard at the Mt.Soledad Cross— None at the spot where our Memorial was stolen from Sunrise Rock in the Mojave Desert. None in Montana to request silence or respect at such Hallowed Ground. Where were the Military Guards when the enemy demanded the Schofeild Barracks Cross be destroyed— or the Camp Smith Memorial Cross on Oahu? We cannot honor our dead soldiers I we do not honor the Veterans and soldiers who have erected Memorials to our own.

IS THIS NOT AN ESTABLISHMENT OF RELIGION? No, it is honoring those who gave their life for this country and has nothing to do with religion, only honor. Unfortunately too many in this country have no honor.

It’s hard to tell..it was just at the edge of the camera’s field, but it looks like something rolled UNDER the ropeline, and someone reached out to retrieve it..

For those interested, there is an old James Cann movie "Gardens of Stone"..about the Old Guard. Very faithful, and accurate depictions of the rituals and routines that comprise guarding "The Unknowns"

Worthwhile trying to obtain and view..

I agree there are too many who have NOT been taught Honor—
I have attended several funerals where folk in attendance
were standing in the back talking, and laughing. And sometime way too loud. And you are right about Honor -But I stand by what I said.IMO this is very much an establishment of religion.Read the Judiciary report of March 27 1854 US House Judiciary Committee Report by Mr.Meacham as cited in Wm.J.Federer’s America’s God and Country encyclopedia of Quotations Under Congress: pp169-170 note 215.

I pay little attention to the BS published by our government because that is what it is BS. If they cannot keep themselves clean they have no right infringing upon others with what they peddle. You are IMHO falling under the leftist umbrella of thought. Establishment of a religion is not honoring the dead, having religious symbols, nor even saying a prayer it is the actual making a law (or court rulings) that say this is our religion. The need by the courts and other branches of government to promote atheism (the absence of God) is the more realistically the establishment of religion.

We are on the same page.I do -as I said originally— agree with the sentiment expressed by the “Officer” While on active duty at Ft.Sam Houston,Tx while assigned flag detail one time— I was restrained for my intent was to drag certain folk from their vehicles who had stopped for retiring of the Colors -but had not bothered to unass their POV and stand respectfully for a moment of quiet reflection. - and when In Basic Training at Ft.Campbell KY Jun 69 I was investigated by our school Commander for attempted assault on an Officer after a butter bar Lt. disrespected not only our flag detail -but our Flag by showing up manifesting conduct unbecoming - the rest of the guys assigned the detail reported accounts similar to my own.And by Gods’ grace and the favor of our Commander I was advised to control my passions and that ended it. I do understand Honor and we do so agree about the shortage of folk who understand such.My intent was more to remind folk of what is being taken from us by misunderstanding of the First amendment by men of zeal serving on our Courts.I did not intend to offend any brother.

Oh, my, YES. A beautiful (but very sad and sobering) story. Lots of cussing, though. Not for tender ears.
