Update:

We are learning more about a fatal shooting during a robbery at a Mount Vernon gas station.

Family members of 20-year old James Hensley of Rockcastle County say he was shot and killed outside the Shell station, off exit 59, overnight.

Police say Hensley had just robbed the clerk and was on his way out of the gas station when the clerk fired a gun.

They say Hensley used a knife to get away with cash and cigarettes before he was killed.

Officers are not identifying the clerk.

Police say they are still investigating.

Original story:

We have confirmed a suspect was shot and killed during a robbery attempt overnight in Rockcastle County.

It happened at the Shell station off exit 59 in Mount Vernon.

Kentucky State Police say a clerk was the one who pulled the trigger, shooting and killing the suspect.

We still don't know if the suspect got any cash, had made demands, or if the suspect was armed.

We have several crews in Mount Vernon.

We will bring you more information as we get it..wkyt.com

Call Gloria ALRED.
Totally unfair.
Scum only had a knife. The victim was only allowed a sling shot.

Anyone who goes about robbing someone in this part of Kentucky should expect trouble. This is real country and everyone has a gun.

Good shooting, Citizen. Civilization thanks you (even though he was just a “good boy”).

If that's how it went down, the clerk, unfortunately, is probably looking at some jail time.

This is just horrible!

His poor elderly mother gave him here last 50 cents to go to the store to buy some milk for her poor starving kitty and the next thing she knew, her wonderful son was shot by that mean man at the store.

He was such a good boy. He had only been arrested 15 times for theft and drug possession but after all, society made him do it.

Such a shame, he could have risen to the level of the “street boss” if his life had not be cut short.

end sarc

"He was such a nice quiet boy..."

Yep, just starting to turn his life around...had three job interviews set up for tomorrow...blah blah blah. Actions have consequences.

Went to steal some smokes and got smoked. Nice shooting sir!

Ahh, journalism. The intellectual profession.

I disagree. The man robbed another and used a knife. Some people need killin’ and he was one of ‘em.

Not defending journalists per se, but the quotes you pulled are from the “update” and the “original story”, respectively.

Not only saved civilization from crime and supporting this guy in prison, but also from smoking-related disease healthcare costs for the hat trick. Give the clerk a medal.
