“The offer will start next summer and is part of an initiative the Federal Communications Commission cobbled together to get more U.S. homes connected to broadband.”

Another GSE, another intrusion into free enterprise, another million votes for the Dhims.

Children who are “eligible for free school lunches” should have NO TV.

TV and and the entertainment morass is actually a distraction and burden to such kids.

One third, or about 35 million homes, don’t have broadband. That affects people’s ability to educate themselves and find and apply for jobs, FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski said.

Gollies

Whats wrong with those people ???

I never used the Internet to “educate myself and find and apply for jobs”

Why do they need it ???

I used newspapers and books...

Since these are people who must be sitting at home since they dont have jobs, whats the betting they wont just watch porn, play games or gamble online ???

Plus if they do look for jobs and go to work what happens then ???

Will they then be charged the regular rates ???

How much will it cost the “non-poor” homes to give it to them? Somebody’s going to have to pay for it.

Note that this reduce-price broadband is also (significantly) reduced speed over the normally-priced plans.

My only problem with this is the means testing they put on it; instead, I’d just prefer they offer this low tier of service to ANY subscriber who is ok with the slower speeds.

So when do the taxpayers get the bill for the computers they need to connect to this? Heck, the “poor” already get free cell phones.

You know, we used to not give people free stuff so they would work to get the better things in life. Giving people free stuff really turns them into slaves.

Sounds like the Obama administration leaned on internet providers who will just pass the cost along to their paying customers. Hey, if you don't have computer access, go to the library.

Sure, like 85% of the kids on free lunches don’t have lying parents.

This is discrimination against people who don’t exactly meet their carefully parsed criteria.

But after all - They don’t want to just come out and say they are offering this discounted service only to non-whites living on the taxpayers backs.

Why do people deserve this just for being “poor”? Other subscribers are going to pay for this. we’re already paying gas and electric fees for “poor” folks that run their heaters at 90 degrees and instead of turning them down, open windows. Not making that up, I’ve had several installers tell me this is what they’ve seen.
